10 Things My Best Friend Needs To Know Before Moving To Different States

Moving away from your best friend? Here are things I want my best friend to know before heading off to college for freshman year. This one if for you BFF.

Best friend, realizing we are going to be hundreds of miles apart instead of 2-3 miles away is frightening. As I begin to pack all my things and look through all of our memories, I have a few words I want you to hear before we leave for school. I sure, as hell, would not be the individual I am today if it weren’t for you coming into my life. Thank you for blessing each and every one of my days with your jokes, sentimental talks, and uncontrollable laughs.

The thought of going to college “next year” has now quickly approached and here we are saying, “next week,” instead. But, as the time to leave approaches, I become more and more sure that you will do such wonderful things as you start this new chapter of your life. So, this one is for you. I’ll see you soon, best friend.

1. Thank you!

Thank you for sticking through these hectic years of high school with me. Enduring the awkward 10 months of sophomore year would have been hectic without you. Thank you for the countless amount of times that you always had my back and for encouraging me to take advantage of opportunities that really benefited me. You’ve always been on the same wavelength as me; truthfully 95% of the time, our thoughts were aligning. Thanks for challenging me, laughing, smiling, dancing, singing, raving, and of course venting, with me.

2. Never stop being you.

Your roommate is one lucky individual as she will be able to experience all your hilarious quirks that always made me smile. Try not to steer too far off from home and your roots. You’re amazing in so many ways. It would be a bit impossible for you to lose that bright flame of yours. Stay true to who you are, because who you are, is quite incredible.

3. Start each day with a grateful attitude.

Every day is a gift for new opportunities and growth. I hope you always try your hardest, because I know you can.

4. Be kind to yourself.

Classes will get stressful and as we both have experienced in the past, we have a tendency to let school stress get the best of us. But I hope you always stay kind to yourself. Nothing negative is ever permanent, and these tough times will pass. Keep studying. Don’t go too hard on yourself. This is normal. If you’re having troubles with your classes, give me a call. Maybe I can help my best friend out. Unless it’s math…because then you obviously know we’ll both be in the same boat…

5. Drink lots of water on those long nights.

For obvious reasons…just looking out for my best friend. I’m only making sure you stay hydrated, of course…

6. I cannot wait to hear all of your wild stories.

This is no lie. You already know I will be clearing a special spot in my schedule for you when breaks come around and we all come home. So be ready to update me on whatever is going on in your life! I’m so excited for all the amazing memories you will make, and hearing about all of them will be just as exciting! I’ll bring ‘Marley and Me’ over and we’ll have a girl’s night, just like old times.

7. Continue to make room for new adventures.

You’re an adventurous and wild individual, but you already knew that. I hope you take advantage of all of the amazing opportunities that are headed your way. Just don’t go too crazy with it. Hey, I hope you have the time of your life.

8. This one is a cliché, but: follow your dreams.

You’ve really had your fair share of highs and lows throughout life, especially through the duration of these past few years. I know you dream of the future and to be honest with you, it really is not as far away as we think it is. I hope you continue to always dream big and persevere towards the things you want in life best friend. You owe it to yourself.  I know you well enough to know that you have the will, as well as the strength, in you to go the extra mile.

10. You are irreplaceable.

I think this is as straight forward as it gets. No one can replace our memories or our friendship. Thank you for always being the realest. Can you believe it’s finally our time, in just a few days, to move schools? Move states? Move away from each other? These last few years of high school with you have been extremely fun, fairly emotional, and just a tad bit crazy!

Fortunately, your future is looking real bright; brighter than ever before! I can’t wait to hear all about the new memories you make, boys you meet, classes you take, and long nights that you have. I am always one call, text, or Facetime away. We’ll keep in touch, no doubt. I’ll miss you a boat load best friend.

Love, the best friend.
