Best Clothes To Fit Your Body Type

First and foremost, let me just say how we all should wear whatever makes us feel good. The tips below won’t work for absolutely everyone but they are smart to try if you are looking for something more flattering for your body type. Don’t forget to love your body because every single body is beautiful.

1. Round

The round body shape, or apple body shape, is where you have a bigger upper body and no defined waistline. You will have great legs but not much definition on your upper body. Let me clear this up… a round body type doesn’t mean plus size. If you have a round body type, you are just like Kate Winslet, Adele, Drew Barrymore, and Oprah.

To start off, don’t just buy baggy clothes because you have a bigger upper half. Find fitted, tailored tops and jackets but just make sure they are not squeezing you. The best necklines are asymmetrical, scoop or v-neck. No crew or turtle necks! Your bottoms should also be fitted. Grab some pencil skirts because it will allow you to show off your legs and small waist at the same time. Make sure that your jeans are wide leg to add extra volume to your bottom half.

2. Pear

If you have a pear shaped body, you have a wider lower half (wider hips and thighs). Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez have some of the most famous pear body types. People with this type tend to gain weight in their hips, thighs, and lower belly.

In order to balance out your top and bottom halves, draw more attention to your upper body through bright colors and fun prints. The best necklines for this body type is boat, off the shoulder, bateau, cowl, sabrina and sweetheart necklines. Your sleeves should be structured and tapered. A push-up bra can add to your bust, accentuating your top half. Now, your pants should have a flare to accentuate your waist. Do not wear a tapered or skinny fit. Your jeans should be high-rise flare leg to elongate the silhouette. The best dresses are A-line, wrap, tulip, empire, and x-line to maximize your physique.

3. Inverted Triangle

The inverted triangle body type is where your shoulders are broader than your hips. You will find that you get a size larger on the top than the bottom. Your shoulders may be straight, squared, and strong-looking. People with this body shape tend to have no butt but great legs. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore have the inverted triangle body type.

The goal to styling this body type is to reduce the wide appearance of your shoulders. Flattering tops for inverted triangle bodies are asymmetric, v-neck, scoop, and u-necks. Halter tops are a hit or miss. You do want to avoid necklines like boat-neck, off-the-shoulder, big straps, big shawl collars, and larger patterns on your tops because it can make you look bulky. Make sure that your tops aren’t cropped but are fitted, past your hip. If you don’t do this, you will look unbalanced. As for bottoms, go after an a-line skirt or wide-leg pants. You definitely should not be wearing tight jeans because it’ll accentuate the smaller lower half. The perfect styles for your bottoms are cigarette cut, palazzo, flared, or boyfriend jeans. For dresses, opt for a pleated or a-line dress.

4. Rectangle

Making up 46% of the world, this is the most common female body shape. If you have a rectangle body shape, you are just like Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow. A rectangular body shape is where your bust and your hips are the same width. You don’t have a defined waistline and you lack curves. When you gain weight, you will gain it evenly throughout your body.

The number one thing to focus is creating the illusion that you have a more defined waist in order to break up the rectangle. You can wear a belt, mid-waisted pants, or a belted jackets to suck in your midriff. The best top material is something that is softer because it will stretch better if you tuck it in to your pants. Darker colors are slimming especially around your waist. For a more curvy look, you should wear round, lower, and wider necklines like off the shoulder, bateau, sweetheart, scoop and v-neck. Don’t wear square or straight necklines, this will only make your body look more boxy. Your sleeves do be loose and wide to add curve. For example, rolled-up, puffed, fluttered, flared, and cuffed sleeves would look amazing on you. Another thing to focus on is layering. The best jeans for your body type are slim straight or skinny. If you choose to wear skinny, you should wear a looser/larger top.

5. Hourglass

If you have an hourglass body shape, you are just like Beyonce and Marilyn Monroe. An hourglass body has equal size hips and shoulders with a defined waist. You will tend to have more of a bust, so if you are trying to show off your chest, wear a boat neck or scoop neck. No turtlenecks! If you want to expose your chest, opt for a push up bra and low cut tops. The best necklines for you are off the shoulder, sweetheart, square, scoop and v-neck. Make sure your sleeves are fitted.

If you have this body type, you have to still show off your waist because it is the smallest part of your body. This means that you have to avoid wearing baggy clothes like big t-shirt or sweatshirts because you will look huge and lumpy. As for pants, your initial reaction may be to go for low waisted jeans since you have a small waist but the best option is high waited. You should go after pants that have angled pockets or no pockets at all (this will stop it from getting unflattering lines on your body).
