Bathroom Struggles Every College Girl Living In A Dorm Understands

Transitioning from life at home to life in a college dorm comes with a lot of changes, and sometimes, these changes are not necessarily ideal. Bathroom struggles, downsizing your wardrobe, getting used to a lumpy mattress, and living with a stranger are all examples of new things you have to get used to.

What’s so bad about sharing a bathroom with a large number of other girls? In all honestly, sharing a bathroom can go multiple ways. Maybe you will get lucky and share with a bunch of clean freaks, but the odds are more likely that you will unfortunately have at least one individual who doesn’t know how to clean up after herself, and so, the bathroom struggles commence.

What bathroom struggles should you prepare for?

1. Keys

You are most likely going to need a key to get into your bathroom (if you are lucky and have a semi-private one!). Yes, semi-private bathrooms that have doors with locks are a luxury to have on a college campus, but they come with bathroom struggles, too. When you really have to go, fumbling around with your keys is the last thing you want to worry about.

2. Taken Stalls and Showers

In college, almost everyone runs on a similar schedule. Either you shower super early in the morning before your classes, or super late at night after completing piles of homework that you pushed aside until the last minute. Either way, the bathroom struggles don’t stop. The showers and stalls are bound to all be taken at some point, and when this happens, you are either running late or losing another hour of sleep.

3. Poor Cleaning Time

If you’re lucky, someone will clean your bathroom for you once a week. Again, this is a luxury, especially if they clean your bathroom in the middle of the afternoon when everyone is in class, but when they decide that cleaning your bathroom at 8 a.m. is the perfect time, the bathroom struggles return, and nothing can be less convenient. Prepare to wake up early or go to class smelly.

4. Shower Shoes

Showering with shoes on seems like the oddest thing in the world, but trust me, you are going to be so thankful that your feet will be protected from whatever muck someone left on the floor of the shower that day. Shower shoes are definitely considered dorm life bathroom struggles. They are slippery, they seem to never dry, and they leave puddles wherever you go, but at least they save you from stepping in that unknown substance near the toilet. At least you can find a cute pair of slides!

5. Hair. So much hair.

Prepare yourself for massive hairballs EVERYWHERE. It is inevitable that you will have to pull hairballs out of the shower drains. Hair will stick to the sides of the sink, to the walls of the shower, to the shower curtain, and to you. It’s everywhere. Strands of hair fly around in the air around your head. You cannot escape it, just prepare yourself for hair-related bathroom struggles as much as you can.

6. The Lingering Fear That Other Have Used Your Things

When you are sharing a bathroom with other people, there are always risks that your belongings may not be completely safe. Perhaps one of the worst bathroom struggles is the possibility that someone else has used your stuff. Whether it be drying their hands on your towel or rummaging through your cubby for toothpaste, the possibilities are endless, and it is likely to happen at some point.

7. Limited Storage Space

Girls have great hygiene, but to keep their hygiene in tact, it requires a lot of products and tools. At home, you seem to have all the space in the world to store your hair products, but on campus, you are lucky if you are given a cubby to stash your skin care in. One of the worst bathroom struggles is having to store your bathroom things in five different places, but it’s necessary if you want to have all of your products with you.
