Basic Clothing Items Every Girl Needs in Her Closet

Your closet is already stacked with the perfect summer clothing, I’m sure of it. But you may have a bunch of pieces that stand out and need a basic piece that won’t outshine it to go with it. Here are the basic clothing items every girl needs in her closet to match every outfit.

1. Basic Cropped Tank

The biggest basic clothing staple piece you need is a cropped tank. While they come in all styles, shapes, colors, and sizes, regardless you need a cropped tank to go with statement pants or a cute skirt that doesn’t match much. A cropped tank is the perfect summer basic clothing staple that can be dressed up or down, and depending on how cropped you want to make it, can be super hot. The best part about basic clothing like a cropped tank is that they come insanely cheap so you can buy one of every color and never have to worry about having absolutely nothing to wear with your new statement pants.

2. Terrycloth Dress

Terrycloth is the new trend in clothing this summer because it is, in fact, super versatile. Zara has recently come out with a terrycloth shorts and cropped tank set as well as a super cute terrycloth shift dress. The good thing about wearing this material is it’s great for the beach and it absorbs all of the sweat and oil you may be producing in this absurd heat. Not only that, but you can wear this dress on the beach as a cute little coverup or during your day-to-day activities. Either way, this terrycloth dress is incredible for your summer basic clothing staple because you can just throw it on at any moment and head out the door in a cute, effortless outfit.

3. Corduroy Pants

Baggy pants are not going out of style anytime soon, so add to your basic clothing collection a pair of funky baggy pants like these. Corduroy pants are perfect for a cool, trendy look and they are so comfortable. Pair these pants with a tight top to give your body some contrast in tightness and show off a bit of curve for a great night or day outfit. You can do anything with these pants so it’s quite amazing that not everyone is wearing these around town or out at night. Versatile pants that can be worn throughout the day into someone’s night festivities are a must-have for your summer clothing basics.

4. Bra Tops

Lingerie-style tops are really great to have for the summer and are super basic clothing pieces to throw with an outfit. I love wearing high-waisted baggy pants, like the corduroy pants above, and a bra top for a summery outfit that works with everyone. Getting bra tops in different fabrics like lace and satin are good ways to spice up your clothing style without trying too hard to differentiate your outfits. Since a lot of cute bra tops are sold as actual bras or lingerie, they can be more on the expensive side, but stores like Amazon and SheIn have great dupes that don’t break your bank.

5. Coverup Style Sets

Coverups can be made out of lace, mesh, or just simply an open-knit sweater style. Either way, they are great for going out outfits and you have been overlooking it the whole time! Wear your favorite set of Skims or Spanx, or even a nude bikini underneath and you have a sexy going-out outfit that you never even knew existed! Coverup sets that are all mesh and are dark-colored won’t show too much skin, especially if you have a dark bikini set underneath, so you don’t have to worry too much about showing too much skin. They’re a sexy alternative to dresses or skirt sets that you would pay a ton of money for normally.

6. Cotton Jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is a great basic clothing piece to have that not a lot of people have hopped on yet. I love a good romper, but a jumpsuit gives off such a cool vibe that I love on everyone. Wearing a jumpsuit allows for you to not have to go through your entire clothing wardrobe to find an outfit because it has all you need right there. Wearing a cotton jumpsuit is great for travel because it’s not terribly hot so you won’t be sweating, but it’s comfortable and trendy to wear on a plane. Athleisure is super trendy and only got more popular during the pandemic, and there’s no reason for it to go out of style now!

7. Biker Shorts

If you haven’t hopped on the biker shorts clothing trend and don’t already have a ton in your wardrobe, go get a pair right now. They are leggings in short form, which doesn’t sound amazing when I write it out, but they are lifesavers. We all know how we would love to wear our leggings year-round because they feel like a second layer of skin, so keep it going with biker shorts. Your newest basic clothing obsession if it isn’t already. Pair them with a pair of sneakers and a crop top for an athletic-chic look or with a big, oversized tee for another cute but casual look. Everyone is wearing them and you deserve this comfort too!

8. Baby Tees

When I was online shopping recently I was introduced to a new basic clothing phenomenon: the baby tee. The baby tee is basically a cropped shirt or a t-shirt that is shrunk to the size of a baby but you can ironically fit into it. They are going to be a hit with jeans or shorts to complete a casual outfit, or you can wear these baby tees out, too. They have tons of cute little graphics that give the tees variety and allow for you to buy as many as you want without repeating. Get ready for these tees to hit the shelves because they don’t seem to be going anywhere soon.

These basic clothing items are great for anyone’s closet! Gone are the days you had to worry about not having a few basic pieces in your closet, we’ve gathered a great list for you to love. Let me know your fave staple piece in the comments below!
