10 Back To School Style Ideas To Make You Stand Out

When it comes to your back to school wardrobe, it’s good to think back and reflect on outfits gone by, but more importantly, look to the future, which is multi-patterened and texturised! If you’re thinking of revamping your school wardrobe (or just your general wardrobe), we’ve got some killer back to school style ideas to make you stand out among the crowd! From flares to mini’s, this list has got you covered for your style takeover!

1. Lazy Chic

Students, behold! You can be lazy and still look cute! This outfit takes less than five minutes to put together, and is achieved with these; overalls. Recently, overalls, especially in the denim department, have been making a major comeback. Wear a cute t-shirt underneath in the summer and a chunky knit in the winter and you’ve got a piece that transcends seasons! And, not only do they have those vintage vibes, they’re also super comfortable. You’re welcome.

2. Classy and Elegant

If Audrey Hepburn is your style icon, or you’ve just admired her from afar, now’s the time to take a page out of her book, style-wise. Midi skirts are the perfect way to add a little bit of easy breezy elegance to your look. Dress it up with a pair of cute boots and a flowy blouse, or dress it down with sneakers and a t-shirt tucked into it and you have a timeless look! Perfect as a back to school outfit sure to make you stand out!

3. Retro

Recently, fashionistas and trend-makers everywhere are loving a 90’s moment. The best way to achieve this style and have your own cool 90’s moment is with a pair of (all together now!) MOM JEANS! Now a lot of us have already hopped aboard this high-waisted train, however, if you refuse to ride along, I beseech ye reconsider! I challenge you to try out these especially comfortable jeans and tell me you don’t love the way they make your butt look. I promise you’ll be living in them before the year is through!

4. Cute and Comfortable

Babydoll dresses are some of the simplest pieces you can wear. While dresses are generally an easy go-to outfit, nothing matches comfort with looking #cute like a babydoll dress. They’re especially easy to throw on in the morning with sandals or your old converse sneakers and in the colder months, they work especially well with a denim jacket and tights. This simple, yet effective, outfit will definitely make a back-to-school statement when your breezing about campus, unbothered by tight clothing but still looking oh so cute!

5. Fun and Flirty

Another back to school style is the classic mini skirt. I’m a sole believer in the power of a mini skirt; such a simple piece and yet makes such a statement in your outfit. There seems to be a mini for every occasion, but for the purpose of this ‘back to school style’ list, I’ll give you a few suggestions. For a vintage look, go for a plaid mini with a band t-shirt tucked in with boots, or a flippy floral piece if you’re feeling a little more flirtatious. Really, any mini skirt will do to add a freshness to your look. Plus, it’s a chance to flaunt your pins!

6. Flared

Now here’s a back to school style that’s sure to make you stand out on campus! Flare pants and sleeves are waking up from their 40 year redundancy, from a time when your parents rocked out to the Beatles and Mick Jagger, and flower power was in. Rock a 70’s inspired outfit with flared cord trousers and a t-shirt, or add some bell sleeves to your everyday ‘jeans and a nice top’ look. Really explore this style with mustard and russet red peices to bring an extra ‘flare’ if you will. Peace-sign your way into a new era of your wardrobe!

7. Out There Outerwear

‘Back to school’ means the warmer days are winding down, and soon you’ll be in need of some outerwear to throw over yourself. Going back to the cord, this material especially in a light jacket, brings an element of ‘cool’ to your look without even trying. Step away from the denim you always wear and go for leather! Faux leather, of course. Just the simple act of choosing a piece of outerwear that no one else is wearing will bring out your own style, or at least be a conversation starter!

8. Co-ordination

This is a style that’s definitely going to make you stand out, and that’s a co-ord. The right two piece set will become a classic in your wardrobe and on campus! These come in many shapes and styles, so you really just have to look around and see what strikes a ‘co-ord’ (lol) with your individuality! Whether you’re into a skirt and top co-ord, or pants and a crop top, this style is so easy in the morning to throw on because you already know they match! Donezo!

9. Best of Backpacks

Most of the time, we don’t really think much of our backpacks. We grab it and go and don’t think twice. But take a second and consider, from a style standpoint, how can you turn your backpack into a statement piece? A way to get creative with it is to purchase a relatively blank backpack in your favourite colour and cover it in your favourite pins. Curate a unique assembly of pins that reflect you as a person and stick them to your pack. A statement and a conversation peice!

10. Hair Care

One of the best ways to show off your personal style and stand out in a world of bed-heads and 3-second ponytails is to experiment with your hair. And I’m not talking about a full colour change and chop (but if that’s where your heart lies, go for it!). There are so many beautiful braids and updo’s you can match with your outfits, which make for cute back to school styles. Yes, it will take a little practice and time in the morning, but people are going to notice the effort you took. Even if it’s just tying a fun hair scarf around your messy bun or adding in some clips!
