10 Artsy Gift Ideas For The Crafty Person In Your Life

It can be difficult to come up with artsy gift ideas. If you buy the wrong thing you waste your money and your loved one feels disappointed. Here’s a breakdown of 10 awesome gifts for the crafty person in your life, or yourself!

1. DIY Big Yarn Blanket

Have you ever heard of “arm knitting”? This is a great gift for a knitting fanatic interested in trying something new. The end-product is a massive, bunny-soft blanket with chunky stitches.

2. Paint by sticker

Similar to grown-up coloring books, paint by sticker is a new take on the classic paint by number. These intricate activity books allow you to create sticker mosaics of famous works of art, music icons, vintage travel posters, and animals. This is the perfect gift for someone who’s detail-oriented and strives for precision.

3. Craft kit

Craft kits are all over Etsy for only about $15-$20 each! These typically have the materials and instructions for one short-term project, like felting a mini sheep, which makes it a great gift for beginners or experts. You can choose from felting, embroidery, candle-making, decoupage, printmaking, weaving, and other kits. Even though these craft kits aren’t open-ended, they provide hard-to-find materials and interesting designs.

My favorite is the miniature DIY kits, which focus on building one room of a dollhouse. Some look like little fairy tale scenes inside glass terrariums or tins, while others modern one-bed room apartments.

4. Frames

Any artist would appreciate getting their art framed. It makes their work look more professional and preserves it against tearing or wrinkling. If you want to go all-out, you can pick out a signature frame, and maybe even opt for museum-glass, which has no glare and protects the piece from UV rays. If this seems too pricey, generic frames from Target can still dress-up an art piece.

You can gift frames for any 2D media, like photography, painting, printmaking, and collage as well as art that doesn’t involve paper, like embroidery and cross-stitch.

5. Stationary

Stationary is a excellent for paper-centric art like printmaking or collage. It can also brighten up more mundane activities like letter writing or list making. You’ll find stationary at any printing press or stationary store, or on Amazon.

6. Craft-themed trinkets

Etsy is also a useful source for craft-themed buttons, stickers, and enamel pins. I’d recommend the shop Punkypins, whose products are pictured below.

7. Organizer

Organizers are perfect for both art supplies and the art pieces themselves. Art portfolios, drawer storage containers, and this classy pencil wrap are all wonderful organizational gifts.

8. Art supplies

Art supplies can be expensive (unless you collage old National Geographic magazines like me, suckers). Visit an art supplies store or craft store and buy your friend some coveted fine-tipped pens or an especially nice patterned swath of fabric. Feel free to ask the employees what art supplies are necessities for different types of art-making.

9. Gift card

If you aren’t sure what to buy your friend or family member, go with a gift card! You can find these at craft stores like Micheal’s, Craft Warehouse, Joann’s Fabric, and art-supply stores like Blick. You also can’t go wrong with a small gift bag with both art supplies and a gift card if the gift card alone doesn’t seem like enough.

10. A craft class

This is the ideal gift for a crafty person who has too much stuff already. Sign you and your friend or family member up for a craft class! Most craft stores host beginner-friendly paint nights about every month for only $15 per person.
