10 Amazing Food Places In Louisville, KY

Louisville is a pretty foodie city, so there are a plethora of amazing restaurants to choose from. These are just a few of my favorite, reasonably-priced spots—and they should be yours, too. Bonus: all of these are local! Here are 10 amazing food places in Louisville, KY.

Highland Morning

If you’re looking for a good breakfast/brunch/lunch spot, look no further. Highland Morning is a casual option for some amazing brunch food, and it will definitely give you hometown pride when you walk in and see the posters of local celebrities and murals of the city on the walls.

Joella’s Hot Chicken

If you want to embrace your Southern roots and/or love fried chicken, stop in at Joella’s. It’s a relatively new restaurant, but it’s already won awards for being the “Best Chicken in the Bluegrass.” Not only is the chicken phenomenal, but the sides are amazing too. (I’m looking at you, parmesan garlic fries.)

Café Lou Lou

Advertising itself as “Mediterranean Italian Cuisine with a Cajun Twist,” you can find some wonderfully unique dishes here. Just walking inside will lift your spirits when you see the quirky décor and multi-colored pastel booths. My personal favorite is the meatball sandwich (with a side of Cajun fries), but it’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu.

Simply Thai

This is one of the best places to go for delicious yet reasonably-priced Thai food. It may not look like much from the outside, but it has a great ambiance on the inside. Portion sizes are ENORMOUS, so it’s entirely possible to split an entrée with someone and still have leftovers for the next day. The best part is getting to choose your own spice level on a scale of 0-5.

Blue Dog Bakery and Café

This is another perfect option for breakfast or lunch. Blue Dog bakes fresh bread and pastries every day, so you can stop in for a quick dessert if you’re short on time. But if you’re looking for a full meal, they’ve got that covered with a variety of sandwiches, salads, pizzas and more.

MexA Steak Tacos

Relatively new and relatively hidden, it might be easy to miss this taco joint, but you definitely don’t want to. The restaurant was opened by a woman from Monterrey, Mexico, who wanted to bring a more authentic taco experience to Louisville. The best part is that you can mix-and-match different menu items for a new experience every time.

Mark’s Feed Store

This place has been around forever, but it’s some of the best barbecue in the city. If you grew up in Louisville, odds are you’ve been to some event or party that’s been catered by Mark’s Feed Store. But if you haven’t, stop in the next time you’re craving barbecue. Make sure to save room for dessert, because the Buttermilk Crunch is amazing.

Mojito Tapas Restaurant

Stemming from the Spanish culinary tradition of tapas, or small, shareable dishes in lieu of a full entrée, the menu here is full of Spanish- and Latin-inspired food. It’s best to go with a group and share a ton of different items. It’s also a great option for a girls’ night out since you can get drunk off of mojitos and drown your sorrows in guacamole.

Green District

This is one of the only healthy options I’m including on this list. It’s essentially just a salad/wrap store, but it’s one of the few places I actually enjoy eating a salad. You can choose from one of their tasty creations, or you can build your own. The best part is watching them make it right in front of you—something about lettuce being chopped and tossed is oddly satisfying. There is a great variety of food places in Louisville, KY!

The Cheddar Box Cafe

This is the perfect lunch spot with a ton of sandwich, salad, and pasta options. It has a quaint and Southern feel, boasting classics like chicken salad and buttermilk pie. You can also stop in at The Cheddar Box Too, its satellite location with a smaller menu but just-as-yummy food!
