15 Activities You Have to Do on Your First Date

First dates are always scary. I don’t know if I’m the only one but I actually don’t like to go out to eat on the first date. If you are like me and don’t like going out for food, then I got you. Here are 15 fun activities you can do on your first date.

1. Go for a walk

Going for a walk is the third most popular date idea for women in their 30s-60s. It is fourth as popular for women in their 20s. Go grab coffees and bring your pups. Take a stroll on the beach or in the city. A dating coach says that walking around loosens you up more, hence, you will be able to be more vulnerable with each other. On your walk, you can see what their interests are if they ask to stop in certain stores.

2. Go to a comedy club

Going to a comedy club is a great idea for your first date. You won’t be stressed about thinking what to talk about because you will be focusing on laughing your butts off. Even if the show isn’t good, it can give you more to talk about. Maybe, it will also show you if they don’t have the same sense of humor which is good to know early on.

3. Get exercise

Going for a bike ride or surfing together is a great way to bond with each other. Working out is known to put you into a good mood. You find each other more attractive while exercising because you release sex hormones. Planning to do some sort of exercise date helps you realize if they care about exercising as much as you do. Maybe if they are couch potatoes, that would turn you off.

4. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to find out if you share the same values and morals. You can see how they work with and treat others. According to a 2015 survey, 80% agreed their relationship improved after they had volunteered together. So if this not your first date, you should definitely make time on one of your next few dates.

5. Go mini golfing

Mini golfing is great because it is so fun and makes you feel like kids again. You are able to either joke around with each other or be competitive…whatever floats your boat.

6. Go to a place with live music

There is something about going to a music festival or going to a restaurant with live music that just makes people connect. A 2019 survey found that about 80% of people went on a second date after going somewhere with live music. You can even go somewhere more silly like a karaoke bar.

7. Do an escape room

Escape rooms are great for seeing how well your date communicates and well as how well you guys work together. You don’t have to worry about what to say because you will be focusing on working through puzzles and clues.

8. Try each other’s favorite hobbies

Swapping hobbies is a fun way to get to know each other. If both of you spend an hour doing something you love and the next hour you do what your date loves, it’ll definitely make some sparks fly. You can learn something new, which is always a good thing.

9. Go roller skating/ice skating

When people do things that scare them, it makes them bond more. It is proven that they will come back for a second date.

10. Go to a bowling alley

Bowling is such a goofy activity. From the shoes to your technique, it will definitely having you both laughing or maybe you’ll be competitive…both are good. If you would like, you could make this a double date with one of your friends and one of your date’s friends.

11. Attend a sports game

Can you imagine if you found someone who liked the same football, basketball, hockey, or soccer team as you? Having a shared interest creates a bit more passion and tension on your first date. This is another idea where you don’t have to talk much because you’ll be too invested in the game.

12. Hit up a drive-in movie

Going to see a movie on your first date isn’t the best move because you can’t really talk in a crowded theatre. So, I have a better idea. Go to a drive-in movie. You can talk during the movie in the comfort of your own car.

13. Go to the beach

I am not the first one to say it but I absolutely love the beach and I spend a lot of my time there. So, when it is hot out, I love just heading to the beach and playing in the waves. If you feel the same, go ahead and bring your date. You can throw around a football or bring a surfboard. Another idea to do at the beach is go at sunset and have a picnic.

14. Go dancing

This one is for my friends with rhythm or even my friends without it. Dancing creates a lot of tension and chemistry. Also, it is a fun way of getting exercise.  Dancing releases endorphins that puts you into a good mood and creates positive feelings. You will be dancing away all the first date jitters. Lastly, dancing shows off their bedroom skills. As Shakira once said, “hips don’t lie.” If doesn’t dance the best, he might not be the best in the bedroom.

15. Do goat yoga

I know this is kind of out there but here me out…you absolutely have to try it. Goat yoga is absolutely hilarious and fun. When I tried it, I couldn’t stop laughing and it put me in tears. Goat yoga incorporates both animals and a healthy activity. If you are an animal-lover, adventurer, or a yogi, this is perfect for you.
