7 Activities You And Your S.O. Will Love On A Cold Snowy Day

If you’re like me and live in one of those places where weather can be totally unpredictable, then you know to always be checking your weather app on your phone for the latest, especially during the winter. Those snowy days can sometimes be a pain, but when it happens to fall on a weekend and there’s no reason to go out, the best place to be is curled up warm inside with your significant other. Some may think that there’s not much to do stuck inside your house or apartment. But, with these seven simple, yet fun activities, you’ll forget that it was even snowing outside in the first place.

1. Puzzles

Pulling out a puzzle on a cold snowy day is one way to kick boredom out of the equation. The bigger the puzzle, the better. 1,ooo pieces is usually a great puzzle size to work on, that way you won’t get it all done in just a couple of hours (unless you and your S.O. are overachievers ha ha). What’s great about puzzles is that there are so many different ones to choose from. Whether you want an underwater adventure or the latest Disney puzzle, there are tons of fun endless options! A puzzle on a snowy day also creates an air of relaxation, it’s a laid-back activity that you both can come back to throughout the day. It’s always great to have two people working on a puzzle, because you can have one of you sorting through the pieces and the other trying to fit the pieces together. It makes the process of puzzling so much smoother than if you were to put it together solo. So, the next time snow comes your way, don’t succumb to boredom and just pull out an old puzzle- or plan ahead, and buy a new one!

2. Board Games

A classic way to spend a snowy day inside is by playing your favorite two-person board games with your S.O. There are plenty of options out there that you and your S.O. will enjoy together. Board games have been around for thousands of years, and have always been one of the best ways to spend your time if you have nothing else to be done for the day. It’s also great bonding time and a few laughs to be had between you and the ones you love. One of the best board games to play is The Game of Life. Although this game is the definition of old school, you and your S.O. will be cackling at each other’s ups and downs in their fake lives in no time. Another fun game for the both of you to play on a snowy day, is Uno. It may not be a board game in the traditional sense, but it’s still considered part of the crowd. This card game is always full of fun and laughter. One board game that is with the current times, so to speak, is Codenames: Duet. This modern board game is the perfect one to choose if you and your S.O. like word-deduction games. Plus, there are different versions of this game like Harry Potter, Marvel and Disney. So you and your S.O. can let your inner nerds out. You should always keep board games in mind on those snowy days.

3. Movies

Movies! How could it be a snow day without watching movies? If you and your S.O. are looking to do something together that doesn’t require much effort. Movies are the perfect way to just enjoy the presence of each other’s company. And with there being so many choices of movies out there, it shouldn’t be difficult in selecting the right one. You could even make the whole day a movie marathon. If you and your S.O. decide to go for this, some great choices would be Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings. If you’re looking for more of a movie marathon challenge, then watching all of the Marvel movies in chronological order is fun way to see how each movie ties together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Another great idea is having a classic Disney movie marathon, for those of us who hold Disney close to their hearts. So, pop some popcorn, grab your favorite candy or any other snack that you and your S.O. deem movie-worthy, and settle in for a snowy day full of entertainment.

4. Baking

If you and your S.O. find yourselves handier in the kitchen, then baking on a snowy day is great way to spend some quality time together. Baking carries so many different options to choose from, and each one of them is yummy in the end! Traditional recipes are always a fun route to take if you want something original and different. Especially if they are family recipes. The best thing about baking on a snow day is that when it falls around Christmas, you can pull out family Christmas cookie recipes, and be able to share something intimate and meaningful with your S.O. Other recipes that are fun to try are cakes, pies and donuts. If you both like to challenge yourselves in the kitchen, then making a cheesecake cake is the perfect way to achieve that goal. Trust me, this recipe is not for the faint of heart, even for more experienced bakers (I’m not talking professional here). But, if the two of you are up to it, then go for it! Baking on a snowy day is not only the perfect way to pass the time, but also creates warm fond memories of you and your S.O.

5. Binge Watching Shows

Another great way to spend a snowy day indoors with your S.O. is by binge watching your favorite shows. The great part of binge watching is that there are always great shows to choose from, whether they be old or new. A classic show to binge is the ’90s sitcom Friends. You and your S.O. will be laughing your heads off whether it’s the first time you’ve seen this show or the twentieth time. Friends is that feel-good show that you guys will totally relate to and enjoy watching. If you and your S.O. are into more serious shows, Game of Thrones, ER and The Boys are great shows to watch. If the both of you are more into historical-based shows, Vikings, Turn: Washington’s Spies and Peaky Blinders are awesome picks. And thanks to streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, etc., finding the perfect shows to watch is made easy. By staying in your jammies, and cuddling up with each other on the couch, you and your S.O. can enjoy a day of fun and relaxation with your favorite shows.

6. Video Games

Video games are also a great way to spend a snowy day with your S.O.! There are plenty of two player games to pick from that are hours of fun. Some games you and your S.O. can play together are racing games, like Motocross and Mario Kart, or fun and kooky games like, Overcooked 2. If you both like building games, then Minecraft is the perfect way to go. If you guys are more into the adventure video games, then Lego Star Wars is definitely a fun option. Video games are a lively and competitive way to spend time with your S.O. without the chance of becoming bored. Just make sure that if you’re playing a game where there’s a winner and a loser, that one of you doesn’t act sore if you’re on the losing end. That just sucks the fun right out of playing video games. Or, you can choose a game where there aren’t winners and losers, like Civilization IV. When that cold snowy day rolls around, pull out the gaming console and controllers and have a blast with your S.O.!

7. Reading

Now, this may sound like a completely mundane activity to some, but reading with your S.O. is one of the most relaxing activities you can do. Especially when you’re both looking for a bit of peace and quiet. Reading in the same room together is so cozy and intimate, and you can have a bunch of pillows and blankets strewn about for added comfort. Reading is the perfect way to spend a snowy afternoon together with your favorite books. You can both also make your favorite cup of hot chocolate or tea to enjoy while you’re busy getting lost in your novels. One of the best places to read together is in bed, where it’s already comfy, warm and familiar. The ideal snow day can be spent reading with the one you love most.
