7 Reasons to Get an On-Campus Job

College can be expensive; from textbooks (that are sometimes unnecessary), to food, to miscellaneous items you need here and there – it all adds up. Getting a job is the only way to help get some extra cash when your parents decide not to send you any more money and your financial aid funds are drained. However, the idea of getting a job can be stressful knowing that you have to juggle school work as well. To make getting a job less stressful, consider working on campus!

1. You don’t have to leave campus

Don’t feel like rushing to get to your job? Just hate the general idea of leaving campus? Well, guess what, if you have an on-campus job then you don’t have to worry about any of that. After you have class you can just walk over to you job without dealing with a lengthy commute. Not to mention that you won’t be wasting time getting to your job, so you can get as much work hours in as possible!

2. When campus is closed you don’t have to go to work

This may not apply to every on-campus job, but usually if the campus is closed that means your place of work is probably closed too! You get the benefits of having a day off without having to use your leave time.

3. You’ll generate more on-campus connections

You have your friends and then you have your work friends. These new friends will become available to you and can help you on a more professional level if you ever need it. They can serve as references for other jobs you may apply for, or even if you decide to apply to graduate school.

4. You’ll learn more about your campus

While working you’ll be able to see a new side of your campus that you didn’t know about before. If you work in the library, you will finally get to learn how to use the student database (that everyone finds confusing) and actually use it! You also get to feel more connected to your campus. Depending on where you’re working, you may be the first to know about an upcoming event before it’s announced!

5. You’ll have time to study and do school work

There are different rules at universities about how much a student is allowed to work during the normal school year, dead week, and finals week. Since the number of hours that you can work is limited, then you’ll have time to do other things like homework, studying, or just watching some Netflix. If you’re lucky enough to work in a library or another quiet place, you may be able to do homework while you work as well! Double duty!

6. No public transportation required

If you work until late at night then you won’t have to worry about it taking too long for you to get home or having to depend on public transportation. Also, if you’re ever running a little late then you’ll take comfort in knowing that it won’t take long to get to your job.

7. You don’t have to spend money on commuting

Speaking of no public transportation, since your job is on campus, you can just walk to work. This means that you’ll save even more money since you won’t have to spend on gas, bus tickets, or subways. Who wants to waste their paycheck on boring things like that anyway?
