5 Packing Tips To Help You Move Into Your Dorm

Solely packing your home bedroom into a few boxes to move into your dorm is near impossible, especially if you have a few days to do it. For this reason, we have come up with a few packing tips that can help you limit the packing injuries you endure, increase your productivity, and maybe increase the fun you have doing it. These tips can also be helpful for students who are moving into apartments or moving in general.

1. Spring Clean

The first packing tips is to spring clean your entire bedroom before deciding what to pack. Generally, everyone has a few clothing items or objects that they keep in their bedroom but never use. This is the time to spring clean and throw out everything you own that you never use, or do not want anymore. Also, while you spring clean you might find items you thought you did not have, and that you need. The idea is to throw away the garbage, so you are left with deciding over the items you need.

2. Make A List

One of the essential packing tips is to make a list of what you need. This simply does not mean making a list of what you need to pack and bring to your dorm. Making a list also includes counting how many boxes you might need to carry your items, and if you need to order a moving truck/van. Making a list helps organize what you need to do and know, so you won’t forget anything. You can also make a drawing board of where things need to go in your new dorm room or apartment. This way movers or friends know where to put the boxes when they help you move your stuff.

3. Label Everything

Moving can be a mess which is why one of our packing tips is to label everything with a black marker. Labeling your bags will help identify what is in each box. This way you don’t have to open each box to see where stuff belongs, you can simply read the label. Also, add specific information to the label. Don’t just say “kitchen” but, write “kitchen decor” on one box and “kitchen utensils” on another. By writing specific items on the box, it will also let movers know which boxes to handle with extra care.

4. Friends

If you are moving, one of the packing tips is to ask friends to help you move. It is cheap because they rarely ask you to pay them. After all, what are friends for? You can compensate them with buying dinner or a drink, but most friends will help you for free. It is a great bonding exercise for friends and sets the stage for a few good stories down the road. Also, let them ask friends too. You can use all the help you can get, and you might even meet your significant other during this moving journey. If not, then you get the chance to meet new friends.

5. Don’t Over Do It

Moving is a full-time job which is why one of our last packing tips is to don’t overdo it. Especially if you are moving a long distance away from home, commuting back and forth can be stressful and time-consuming. Don’t forget to take breaks, and if you are feeling tired then stop. The last thing anybody wants is to get injured while moving boxes or furniture. You can divide the moving items into categories, with each category representing a day to move it. For example, on Monday you move all of the kitchen items, and on Tuesday all of the bedroom items, etc… With dividing the items based on days, you can make progress while keeping some time for you to do what you want.
