5 More Stylish and Affordable Lamps for Your Dorm

If you’re moving into a new dorm, you’ll need a stylish and affordable light source. Luckily these 5 dorm lamps just happen to fit the bill perfectly.

1. ROTTOGOON Floor Lamp for Living Rooms.

Made by the company ROTTOGOON, this Dorm lamp serves as a pretty good baseline for what is to come. One of the main draws of this lamp is the fact that it’s affordable without looking shoddy or out of place, with a price point of only 40 dollars on Amazon. The lamp features a stylish metal body with a circular cloth lampshade, making it fit into many decoration styles. The metal body of the lamp makes it a bit heavy, at around 11 pounds, but I take this to mean it has a pretty solid construction and won’t break easily. Another positive aspect of this lamp is the fact that it comes with its own adjustable LED bulb, meaning not only can you alter the brightness and color temperature, but you you probably won’t need a replacement bulb for at least a year. The lamp head can also have its direction adjusted, so you can angle the light exactly where you need it. All in all a solid Start.

2. DINGLILIGHTING Modern Reading Floor Lamp.

Dorm Lamp number two is a little more expensive, but much more versatile. At roughly 50 dollars on Amazon, this lamp’s main selling point is its 3-way gooseneck design. This allows for you to mount three separately aimed bulbs that you can turn on and off individually, allowing you to illuminate as much or as little of a room as you want. It also has a metal frame, but does require assembly and is not exactly a conversation piece. However, if what you want is versatility and functionality, this lamp has them in spades. Gooseneck floor lamps are a great design because they allow for more precise control of where the light goes, and three of them can keep an entire room fully lit. You can use this lamp in pretty much any indoor living space, from living rooms to bedrooms. It also has a slim profile and can easily be fit into decently small corners. The main downsides are the fact that it doesn’t come with it’s own bulbs, and isn’t remote control. However, these aren’t dealbreakers by any measure, and I generally recommend the lamp based on overall utility. You get what you pay for, with minimal frills.

3. FOLKSMATE Vintage Standing Floor Lamp.

The most stylistic of the non-LED dorm lamps on this list, this lamp will run you about 42 dollars on Amazon, and is totally worth it. If you’re a fan of vintage-style furniture, such as the European or farmhouse styles, you’ll love this lamp’s design. It features a styled metal frame, a cloth lampshade and a standard pedal switch, and it’s own 11w LED Bulb. The lamp is also compatible with smart home systems if you use them. Additionally the lampshade angle is adjustable, and the heavy metal base and body mean that it will not fall over easily. I recommend this mostly on its aesthetic design and sturdy frame, rather than its technological advancements. It’s a lamp, it doesn’t need too many functions. One thing I find interesting is that the lamp will only accept LED bulbs.  I don’t mind this too much, as LEDs are far more efficient than regular lightbulbs. Overall this is a solid pick for the aesthetic value alone, but the energy efficiency, 12-month support guarantee, and integration with modern tech make it worth the price of admission, especially if you dig the style.

4.Simple Designs LF-2000.

Arguably the most affordable dorm lamp on this list, this simple mother-daughter floor lamp costs only 30 dollars on Amazon, but is also available at other retailers such as Target for comparable price. I can vouch for this lamp’s quality because I actually own one, or at least a very similar one. The Mother-daughter design featuring an upward-angled bulb and a second adjustable gooseneck means it’s an incredibly versatile design for it’s price point. You can set it next to a desk and illuminate the whole room or deliver extra light specifically to whatever you’re working on. It’s not exactly jam-packed with features or anything, and doesn’t come with lightbulbs of its own, but that’s not surprising given the price point. What it does have is a modern design, decently durable frame, and a very high efficiency rating by customers. The modern design means it can fit into most decoration schemes very well, and can compliment some of them nicely. With its durable frame and weighted base you won’t need to worry much about knocking it over, and the finish can prevent it from being overly shiny. A high energy efficiency on an affordable lamp means you can save even more money by using less power. Overall, its a solid pick at a good price point.

5. Yikuneng LED Torchiere Floor Lamp.

The only dorm lamp on this list with a built-in LED light source, this product will run you about 43 dollars on Amazon. It has a stylish minimalist design with an adjustable upward-facing “plate” of LEDs that I think is actually pretty cool, and it comes with plenty of features. These include remote-controlled activation, completely adjustable brightness, 4 different color temperatures, and a memory function so you don’t need to adjust it each time you turn it on. It’s also easy to assemble and doesn’t require you to swap out or install bulbs, as its LEDs are built in. It even comes with smart home compatibility. In terms of style, I mentioned the minimalist design, but I think it can fit well with many different modern design trends, thanks to its sleek design. The lighting plate can also be angled to better light up a room, and thanks to using LEDs it’s very efficient. I don’t know how relevant this is, but the manufacturers also have an RGB version if you want to make your room look like the inside of a streamer’s PC. Overall a solid pick for someone who wants a lot of features and has a bit higher of a budget.
