15 Songs For Your Inner Badass to Rock Out To

Music, it’s an important part of many of our lives. Music plays a huge role in communicating our feelings and emphasizing significant moments. A great song can move you to tears, make you feel empowered, healthy, and vulnerable. Some music speaks to our souls and feeds us good vibes or energy that makes us feel stronger. When we feel alone, we can find that we are not just listening to a particular song. Music is an intense force that we can relate to throughout the years. As a woman, I find that sometimes, we need a pick me up. We need songs that empower us, make us feel proud about ourselves, and in general, make us feel like badasses.  Here are some songs to listen to next tie you want your inner badass to rock out!

1. Mother’s Daughter by Miley Cyrus

This song is perfect for women who just had enough and want to tell the person who did her wrong or is trying to control her to back the hell off. Miley clearly tells the other person to not mess with her freedom; she even in a way makes fun of what she would be called for, standing up for herself saying she is “nasty, she is evil.” In a way, people may think she is a witch, but guess what? Standing up for yourself and not letting others control you or tell you what to do is far from that.

“Oh my gosh, she got the power
Oh, look at her, she got the power
So, so, so
Don’t f*** with my freedom
I came up to get me some
I’m nasty, I’m evil
Must be something in the water
Or that I’m my mother’s daughter.”

It is your right to tell others to back off and stop trying to control you. You take control of your life, not someone else. Miley then gives credit to her mother for her mindset. This is the ultimate don’t mess with me anthem.

2. Run The World (Girls) by Beyoncé

This song title explains it all. It is a female anthem with no shame. It is a female empowerment song and talks about how badass we women are. Beyonce sings about women who will buy what they want, work their asses off, and doing their thing.  In other words, we can get things done on our own and don’t need a man to do everything for us.

“I’m repping for the girls who taking over the world
Help me raise a glass for the college grads”

3. Bo$$ by Fith Harmony

This song is another female empowerment song talking about strong women, working hard, and knowing their worth. The ladies talk about their confidence; they don’t need a man to take care of everything; they work hard for what they have and are not a damsel in distress. They compare their hard work to Michelle Obama and applaud the independent women around the world.

“Working for the money ’cause that’s what my momma taught me.
So yo ass better show me some respect.”

Every woman’s inner badass needs to be told to keep going and not rely on someone else to do for you or provide. You can do anything you want. No permission is needed.

4. Sit Still, Look Pretty by Daya

This song talks about how women have to do what they want to get what they want. Daya explains that she doesn’t want to just sit there and be pretty. She wants to work for what she wants, and quite literally, she tells everyone she will rule the world.

“I know the other girls wanna wear expensive things, like diamond rings.
But I don’t wanna be the puppet that you’re playing on a string.
This queen don’t need a king.
Oh, I don’t know what you’ve been told.
But this girl right here’s gonna rule the world.
Yeah, that’s where I’m gonna be because I wanna be
No, I don’t wanna sit still, look pretty.”

Daya quite simply puts it that she doesn’t need a man to survive, and she will get what she wants on her own.

5. Good As Hell by Lizzo

This song was played all over the airwaves, and it is obvious why. Lizzo gives women empowerment to get up and walk out the door if you unhappy or mistreated. She expresses that women need to focus on themselves and time what is best for their lives. She suggests walking out the door; she even suggests it be done with style and attitude.  Know your worth, ladies.

“Come now, come dry your eyes.

You know you a star, you can touch the sky.
I know that it’s hard but you have to try.
If you need advice, let me simplify
If he don’t love you anymore
Just walk your fine ass out the door.
I do my hair toss
Check my nails
Baby how you feelin’?
Feeling good as hell.”

So, if you want to feel like a badass, know your worth and remember you are amazing as you are and do your thing, girls!

6.  Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato

The song Sorry Not Sorry is a woman’s anthem for those going through a breakup but knowing they are a badass. Demi doesn’t want to apologize for how amazing she is, strong, beautiful, and confident. She knows that her ex will have difficulty seeing her doing her thing and shining, but she doesn’t care. To be honest, most women should feel that way. Doesn’t matter how bad that person made you feel; you should feel inspired to let your light shine, and if it blinds others, oh well. You are badass and should be recognized for that period. Demi expresses that by belting the notes out, nearly screaming out to others, she is not sorry for how much she loves herself.

“Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry)
Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry)
Bein’ so bad got me feelin’ so good.
Showin’ you up like I knew that I would
Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry)
Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry)
Feelin’ inspired ’cause the tables have turned.
Yeah, I’m on fire, and I know that it burns.”

When you know your worth and are confident, it radiates throughout you and all you do. It is the ultimate revenge to be living like a real badass despite those who want to tell you otherwise.

7. Confident by Demi Lovato

Another powerful song belted out by Demi to let all the people know she is confident and will not apologize for it. She asks the question of what is wrong with being confident. She knows she is amazing, is doing her own thing, doesn’t need others to provide for her or give her permission to be herself. She is confident in her body and in what she does. This song screams out for women to be confident in themselves and their bodies. You do not need to be what someone deems as perfect, you are your ideal, and do not let others tell you anything else.

“I used to hold my freak back.
Now I’m letting go
I make my own choice
B****, I run this show
So leave the lights on
No, you can’t make me behave.”

Be yourself and own your body, your choices, and your freedom. As a woman, you can do anything.

8. Badass woman by Meghan Trainor

This song screams out strength and confidence. Meghan announces she is a badass woman and that there is nothing wrong with it. She declares she doesn’t need to have a particular body to be listened to; she is smart and is not given enough credit for who she is. Unfortunately, many women are put into boxes as if they cannot think for themselves, and depending on how you look, you get different treatment. You may be considered dumb or incapable of running the show. Trainor sings she is a force to be reckoned with, and she is indeed a badass woman.

“Never second guess me.
‘Cause, baby, I’m the boss
Don’t underestimate me.
‘Cause I’m the one in charge
I am smarter than you give me credit for
And I’m way stronger than I ever been before
I’m a force of nature that you can’t ignore.
You can’t ignore, you can’t ignore no more.”

We need to own who we are and recognize that regardless of what others’ preconceived notions are, we do not need to fit that. We can be badass women who run the show and have control over our lives.

9. Salute by Little Mix

This song is a great female anthem. It is all about women coming together no matter what they are, what your style is. It is all the women. You do not need a man to get things done, get what you want, or reach your goals.  The song is a call to action for all women to come together across the world regardless of what others think. the ladies sing,

“You think we’re just pretty things
You couldn’t be more wrong
(We standing strong, we carry on)
Knock us, but we keep moving on (we’re moving up, yeah)
Can’t stop a hurricane, ladies. It’s time to awake (yeah)”

The best part of the song is when the ladies call all the women to come together, and they name off various styles of footwear to indicate whatever your style is, whoever you are, it doesn’t matter.

“Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps or lace up your boots.

Representing all the women, salute, salute.”

You are all capable and exceptional human beings that have the ability to run the show and kick ass.

10. Fighter by Christina Aguilera

This song may be an early 2000’s song, but it is still just as badass as it was when released.  Aguilera sings about how much she has gone through and how it would typically break someone, but instead, all she dealt with made her stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever.

“‘Cause, it makes me that much stronger.
Makes me work a little bit harder
Makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter.
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter.”

This song is a testament to what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Those may want to see you fail or tear yourself down, but rising up with your inner badass is the ultimate way to turn the negative into positive.

11. Can’t Hold Us Down by Christina Aguilera Ft Lil’ Kim

We can continue on the Aguilera train with this song when the ultimate female badass collab with her. Lil’ Kim works alongside Aguilera to express the unfairness and stereotypical female standards in the world. The ladies describe how they are not supposed to have an opinion and are called names because they speak their minds. The ladies sing about how the double standards have withstood everything and how uncalled for and messed up it is throughout history.

“If you look back in history, it’s a common double standard of society.
The guy gets all the glory the more he can score.
While the girl can do the same yet, you call her a whore
I don’t understand why it’s OK,
The guy can get away with it; the girl gets named.
All my ladies come together and make a change.
And start a new beginning for us.”

We need more female empowerment like this, where we are taken seriously and rid our society of double standards, whether in the workplace or on the streets.

12. The Champion by Carrie Underwood Ft. Ludacris

This song was severely underrated, but a great collaboration with Ludacris and Carrie Underwood. The entirety of the song is about being strong and what it takes to be a champion. They list off how hard they have had to work to get to where they want to be or to achieve a dream speak to nearly every person alive that has had hardships on the path to their successes.

“I’ve been working my whole life.
And now it’s do or die.

I am invincible, unbreakable.
Unstoppable, unshakeable
They knock me down, I get up again.
I am the champion
You’re gonna know my name.
You can’t hurt me now.
I can’t feel the pain

I was made for this; yeah, I was born to win.
I am the champion.”

This is the ultimate I will rise up and show you I could achieve my goals declaration song. It is all about perseverance, hard work, and not let others keep you down.

13. The Man by Taylor Swift

This song is all about double standards and calling out the workplace’s inconsistencies and life in general. Taylor expresses how men are viewed and praised for their actions, but they would attack her and call her names if she did it. She would be deemed a b**** if she spoke up against the sexism around her. She talks about how she would be questioned on how much she deserves because she is a female versus a male who did the same thing, speaks volumes, and is a genuine issue in our society.

“They’d say I hustled
Put in the work
They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve.
What I was wearing
If I was rude
Could all be separated from my good ideas and power moves?”

This song shines a light on how difficult it can be to succeed as a woman or rise to success compared to a male counterpart and discrimination based on your gender. You can rise to the top for working hard, but it may take a longer time to get there because of these double standards. Calling out the behavior of others is definitely a badass move.

14. Bitch by Meredith Brooks

This song may be fairly old, but it is definitely an empowering female song. This song is a female anthem for hating everything but also admitting who you are. Women are mixed emotions, we have many feelings, and many things can alter how we are from one minute to the next.

“I’m a bitch
I’m a lover
I’m a child
I’m a mother
I’m a sinner
I’m a saint
And I do not feel ashamed.
I’m your hell
I’m your dream
I’m nothing in between
You know you wouldn’t want it any other way.”

This song literally says she is a little bit of everything, and she doesn’t envy the other person having to experience that. However, she proudly declares all the things she is and would not want it any other way. That is the ultimate badass move; owning who you are and being proud of it regardless of what others think.

15.  Woman Like Me by Little Mix Ft Nicki Minaj

Woman Like Me talks about how the ladies are not perfect, they make mistakes, and they are not like every other woman but wonder if the guy can handle how she is. Honestly, being raw, being yourself, honest, and open is the best choice for any relationship. However, we are taught how we need to be, how we are supposed to talk and act, but that does not mean that all men will be scared of a confident woman who knows her worth and is not afraid to speak up. All people make mistakes, men or women, so this song talks about questioning if you are labeled a certain woman, is it harder for the man to handle? It shouldn’t be, but hey, you mine as well be confident about who you are, and if they can handle you, then great! You shouldn’t have to change yourself to appease others.

I hope you found songs on this list that you enjoyed and found uplifting. We all struggle to be the perfect version of ourselves, but we should remember no such thing as excellent. We are all different, and we are strong, beautiful women regardless of what others say that try to bring you down. You will always be a badass when you stay yourself.
