15 Shower Caddy Essentials You Need For Your Dorm

Every collegiate needs a shower caddy. Since you use your shower caddy nearly every day, it’s important to love and adore it. The best part of owning a shower caddy is that it’s yours and yours only. Therefore, make it personal and throw in your absolute shower essentials! Everyone has their own preference when it comes to shower time, so put whatever products work best for you in your caddy, knowing that you are the only one using whatever your caddy contains. Here are some general shower caddy essentials you shouldn’t forget for the best shower experience (at school)!

1. Shampoo & Conditioner

Shampoo is probably the most important of your shower caddy essentials. Nothing beats a compliment like, “Oh my God, what shampoo do you use? Your hair smells like peaches!” You should be able to get through an entire school year with just 2-3 bottles. A conditioner is another staple when it comes to shower essentials, but since most people tend to use more conditioner than shampoo, be ready to make a few more purchases throughout the school year.

2. Two-in-one Shampoo & Conditioner

We all have those days when we don’t have much time to shower. Rather than shampooing, rinsing, conditioning, and rinsing again, invest in a product that combines the two! It’ll decrease shower time, while still getting the job done. This is definitely one of the biggest shower caddy essentials.

3. Razor & Shaving Cream

It’s very important to keep a sharp razor in your caddy so you can shave the legs, armpits, and lady parts at any given notice. Note that showers in the dorms are quite small, so you might have to get creative when it comes to shaving in such a restrictive space!

4. Body Wash/Bar of Soap

Spend $5 on a nice, yummy smelling body wash or bar of soap. It’ll not only make you feel cleaner, but you’ll smell like a goddess after.

5. Shower Cloth

I’d recommend a cloth over a loofah since you can drape it over the side of your caddy to dry, while a loofah will just sit, sopping wet, at the bottom of your caddy (sounds like a recipe for mold if you ask me).

6. Face Wash

Save yourself a trip to the bathroom sink and wash your face in the shower with your preferred face wash.

7. Lotion

Particularly important for your shower caddy essentials is face lotion, so you can moisturize your face ASAP. This is especially important in the winter when the cold, harsh air dries out your skin! Keep a small bottle of lotion in your caddy so you can moisturize right after you dry off…this goes for your whole body.

8. Flip Flops

Flip flops are a must when it comes to showering at college. You don’t know whose feet have been in that shower, and you most certainly do not want a case of athlete’s foot or some other strange foot condition on your hands. Get a cheap pair at the dollar store and pop them on before you reach the bathroom.

9. Make Up Remover

Make up remover is another must have. This way you will be completely fresh and natural by the time you are back in your dorm (no one wants to walk back to their room with black mascara smeared down their face – not a pretty sight).

10. Hair Oil

If you use hair oil, it won’t hurt to have a small bottle in your shower caddy to apply right before you wrap your hair up in your towel.

11. Deodorant

By keeping a stick in your caddy and applying right after the shower, you don’t run the risk of forgetting to apply once you get back in your dorm room.

12. Nail Clippers

It’s best to clip your toenails when they are wet, so keep a pair in your caddy. This does NOT mean you should cut your nails in the shower. Wait till you get out and hover over a garbage bin. Please.

13. Toothbrush & Toothpaste

Might as well get this step of the “getting ready” process out of the way while you’re already in the bathroom. Keep an extra tooth bush and toothpaste in your caddy so you can keep those chompers squeaky clean.

14. Shower Cap

One of the biggest struggles of being a girl? Having to wash, dry and style your hair every time you shower. Guess what ladies…Pack a shower cap in your caddy and skip the whole tedious process. Maybe invest in some dry shampoo though, so your hair doesn’t start to look dirty (even if it is).

15. Shower Radio

A shower is always better with a little music. Just don’t turn up the volume too loud and piss off your hall-mates.

This may seem like a lot of stuff, but you will use each and every one of these shower caddy essentials throughout the school year. You will also most likely keep the same shower caddy throughout your four years of college (if you keep it in stellar condition). Suds up!
