Your dorm room is going to be your home away from home while you are away at college, so it is important that you live in a space you enjoy! In most dorms, the only things that are provided for you are a bed and a desk. That means you get to decorate it completely yourself! If you are having trouble deciding how to do your dorm room, I have got you covered! Keep reading for fifteen different Pinterest dorm ideas, to give you some inspiration.
1. Go Bright and Colorful
Having a bright and colorful dorm looks super inviting, and the possibilities are endless for all of the Pinterest dorm ideas you can add. A good way to incorporate color is through photos. You can add your own personal photos, or get some from Pinterest that fit your desired aesthetic. Neon signs are also a great way to add that colorful look!
2. Decorate With Posters
Decorating your dorm room with posters can help liven up those plain walls. You can get posters and wall art from Etsy, Urban Outfitters, and many other home decor places. Fill that wall with quotes, images, album art, etc.!
3. Nice Neutral Colors
Neutral Pinterest dorm ideas are super chic! To get this look, start off with your bedding. A grey comforter or duvet cover with white and grey throw pillows would look great. Decorate your walls with some wall art that follows the same color scheme.
A great way to add a little bit of color to this neutral space is with your pictures. You can put all of your photos from home on your wall as well.
4. Add a Flower Wall
Flowers will give your dorm an earthy and boho vibe to it. To create this yourself, get some fake flowers and use either string, tape, or another adhesive to stick them to the wall. A lot of Etsy shops also carry these in all different color schemes!
5. Opt for a Lofted Bed
Let’s be real. Dorms are SO tiny. This example of Pinterest dorm ideas is great for saving space! You most likely will not have very much space in your room. If you opt for a lofted bed, you will have more floor space. You can put your desk underneath your bed, as well as additional storage.
6. Another Lofted Bed Idea
Here are more Pinterest dorm ideas for lofted beds. If your room is a little bit bigger, and you can fit a desk somewhere else, this is a great idea for you. If you have guests over often, having extra seating is super nice. A cute boho chair looks perfect under this lofted bed.
7. Boho Vibes
This is my favorite example of Pinterest dorm ideas is one of my personal favorites. If you are a fan of the boho aesthetic, then I think you will love this one too. Macramé is a great addition to any dorm, and it looks great hanging right above a bed. Plants also help bring that earthy vibe to dorms, so hanging plants and having potted ones are perfect as well. Lastly, do not forget about your wall art! There are so many different designs you can choose from to fit the aesthetic.
8. Create Your Own Photo Wall
A photo wall is a great decor option. You can put photos of friends and family back home, and add to it as the year goes by with pictures of you and your college friends. This looks super cute with polaroid pictures too! Add a neon sign or fairy lights by the photos to give it something extra!
9. Hang A Tapestry
Tapestries are a super easy way to decorate one of your dorm walls. There are so many different options available too. Hop onto Pinterest to find one you like! They are easy to hang up and fairly inexpensive. You can find some at Urban Outfitters, or my personal favorite, Amazon!
10. Go For That Simple and Chic Look
Sometimes less is more! A simple dorm looks super inviting. If this is the look you are going for, try to steer clear of bright and bold colors, and go for neutral tones. Add pops of color with throw pillows, curtains, or small decor pieces!
11. Fairy Lights
Most dorms do not have the best natural lighting. Having fairy lights can help with the lighting problem. Now, you could opt for a lamp or other lighting sources, but it most likely will not be as cute. You can hang fairy lights along your walls, drape them from the ceiling, or wrap them around your desk or chair. So many options!
12. Add Some Plants
Adding some plants to your dorm can help bring some liveliness. Not to mention, it can give a great pop of color. You can do hanging plants, or place potted plants on your desk, nightstand, or window sill. Both look great!
Getting fake plants instead of real ones is always an option too. They still look super cute, and they do not need any water or sunlight, so they are easy to take care of!

This dorm is super cute and girly! Start off by decorating your dorm fairly neutral, and then bring out the pink curtains, throw pillows and blankets, and wall decor!
If you will be living with a roommate, then it would be very beneficial for you to find a way to get some privacy. A great way to do this is with some curtains. If you have a lofted bed with a desk underneath, this is the perfect place for them. If you need quiet while studying, or just want some alone time, you can sit at your desk with the curtains shut.
