12 Makeup Bag Essentials

The Basics

Let’s start with the basics. Even if you don’t wear that much makeup, there are a few essential items that any girl should have on hand, just in case.

1. A Compact Mirror

Not much explanation is needed on the importance of this one. If you invest in a small, compact mirror, you’ll be prepared for any emergencies…like spinach stuck in tooth type emergencies! Makeup wise – you’ll always be able to find out what you need to touch up on, and you’ll be able to admire the masterpiece you’ve created!

2. Makeup Removing Wipes

You never know when you’ll need to either change your look, or remove your makeup, so it’s always good to have some wipes stored in your makeup bag. Things like sweat and rain can cause makeup to smudge, so having wipes to clean up the mess is much better than walking around looking like a raccoon!

3. A Good Pair Of Tweezers

Another necessity for every girl – tweezers. There’s always random times when you’ll have to pluck that one darn, stray hair, or even get rid of that nasty splinter.

4. Lip Balm

Lip balm is essential for smooth, kissable lips. Whether you don a face full of makeup, or you prefer the au natural look, always keep a container of lip balm with you! BabyLips, Esos and Balmi are all amazing brands to have on hand!

5. Your Favorite Mascara

They say eyes are the window to the soul – so you better frame them nicely! Having mascara on hand is great because with one simple swipe you can instantly make your eyes look more awake – perfect for those days you’re running late.

6. A Mini Eyeshadow Palette

Creating a smokey eye is key to transforming your look from night to day. This is why it is important to keep a small eye shadow palette with you at all times; you never know when casual brunch could turn into a night on the town!

7. Your Go-To Eyeliner

Eyeliner is also a great product to have in your makeup bag as it can aid with that smokey eye mentioned above! Make sure to keep whatever type of eyeliner you prefer – pencil, gel or liquid – to add a little oomph to your makeup when necessary.

8. A Brow Pencil

It’s amazing what filling in your brows can do for your face. Make sure to keep a brow pencil that’s similar to your natural hair color tucked away in your makeup bag. Whenever you feel like your face is looking a little “blah,” fill in those brows – the look is still natural, but the effect works wonders!

9. Makeup Primer

You may not even wear foundation, but believe me, you should wear primer anyways. It evens out your skin tone and gives you a glowing look, no extra face makeup needed!

10. A Dependable Concealer

When blemishes or redness strike, have no fear. Keeping concealer stowed in your makeup bag will allow you to touch up on the go!

11. Bronzer

You know those days when your face looks, well, lifeless? Hello, Bronzer! Bronzer is a needed addition to your makeup bag to come to the rescue on days like that.

12. Makeup Brushes

Depending on the makeup you use, you will need to carry the correlating brushes along with you in your makeup bag. Foundation brushes help achieve a more natural look than blending with your fingers, while eye shadow brushes will help create that perfect smoke eye!
