However, these breaks are essential to ensure your mental health. Despite all of the craziness, your sanity is not lost. Here are some tips on how to ease the stress in college!

1. Wake Up Early And Prepare For The Day

Even if you pulled an all-nighter and have an 8AM the next morning, try and sit down and enjoy the day before it starts. Start by grabbing breakfast, reading a news article, or scroll through your Twitter feed. Just savor your day before it gets hectic. Go to the dining halls. Turner opens at 7:00 AM, Deet’s opens at 7:30 AM, and ABP opens at 8:00 AM.

2. Keep A Journal

Schedule out what your day will look like and what you plan to accomplish. Make time for your classes and schoolwork. Make sure to include time for errands, a walk, or a study break. Utilize that time and focus on yourself or any other activities you may have to plan for, this will help you ease the stress in college.

3. Go To The Gym

Working out is one of the best stress-relievers that there is. And as much as it can be fun working out with friends, sometimes the gym is a good place to fly solo. It gives you time to really get in tune with your body and focus your energy into bettering yourself.

4. Take A Drive

Another great way to clear your head is to hit the open road. Even if you don’t have your car on campus, throw in some headphones and take a bus ride. Just taking a break from your work is helpful and you get to explore Blacksburg too.

5. Library Crunch Time

Two words: third floor. Newman is a great place to get work done because you’re in an academic environment. It has separated floors where some floors allow talking and others are quiet zones. If you’re stressed about the amount of work you have to do, the third floor is a great place to go because you can focus and get your work done without any distractions. If you need a friend to keep you company then they’re just a floor below/above you.

6. Spend Some Time Downtown

Downtown Blacksburg have some of the coolest shops and they’re just a short walk away from your dorm. There’s clothing boutiques, cafe’s ranging from Starbucks to Gillie’s, and the Lyric. The Lyric is a cool renovated movie theater that plays select movies and has some live music. Taking a walk or catching a movie is a great way to relax and unwind will definitely relieve the stress in college.

7. Relax On Drillfield

When it’s nice out, the Drillfield is the place to be. Grab some homework, some Jamba Juice, and a blanket/hammock and just spread out and enjoy the view. Sometimes it’s good to be reminded of what a beautiful school Virginia Tech is. Relax and watch your fellow Hokies enjoying themselves and you’ll do the same.

8. Spend The Night In

Perhaps one of the most therapeutic ways to wind down is spending the night in. Throw on a face mask, turn on your favorite Netflix show, and light some candles (or strategically place a ton of air fresheners around your dorm room). Nothing says “me time” more than a spa night.

9. Become Your Own Master Chef

One thing that always manages to make any situation a little bit better is food. Healthy or not, eating food is much more rewarding if you made it yourself. Pinterest or Facebook are good resources to use for recipes!

10. Walk It Out, VT Style

Hokies are lucky enough to go to school in the prettiest part of Virginia. With hikes like McAfee Knob, Dragon’s Tooth, and Cascade Falls, taking advantage of the outdoors is easy. Grab a friend, go on an adventure, and take a break because this is the ultimate way to relieve your stress in college.
