You Know You Are From Florida If…

Florida is arguably one of the most unique states in America. From its crazy weather, to the infamous Florida Man, there’s something interesting happening in the state every day. For those of us that live here, we experience things that tourists might think is out of the ordinary, while us Floridians are used to the differences. That’s why we live here! Here are 10 reasons You Know You Are From Florida If…

1. You go to the beach for Christmas

After you open your presents, instead of going to build a snowman, you go build a sandcastle.

2. You get excited about hurricane season

Lets face it, if you live in Florida, your favorite season is hurricane season. Other than the fact that a major hurricane is nothing to play around with, the occasional tropical storm can bring some fun (and rain) to your town. Let us not forget the hurricane parties.

3. You see various versions of the infamous “Florida Man”

Whether he’s on the side of the road, at a gas station, or at your local Walmart, the Florida Man is doing something that you’ll probably see in the headlines later that week.

4. Chicken tender pub subs are life

Beach day? Game day? Date night? Just because? There’s never a bad time to have one of these bad boys. Especially when they’re on sale. Just make sure you order online to avoid those lines!

5. You know the weather can change within seconds

You look outside and its sunny. You say to yourself “I think I’m going to go for a run!” You go and change but when you’re finally ready, you see that you’re under a “Severe Thunderstorm Warning”.

6. You were either raised a Seminole or a Gator

If you were born and raised in Florida, there’s a good chance that your mom or dad went to one of these schools. They’re the biggest college rivalry in the state so odds are you are always arguing with your best friend about who is better. Just try not to disappoint your parents by choosing the opposite school that they went to.

7. You, or someone you know, own a golf cart

The farther south you go, the more golf carts you’ll see, especially in retirement communities; even when there’s no golf course in the area. Lets just hope you don’t get stuck behind one.

8. You do everything in your power to avoid I-4

Talk about tourist central. At any given moment during the day, there will always be traffic on I-4. Just don’t do it.

9. You know what this building is

Need I say more?

10. You go to Disney World on the regular

Nothing to do on a weekend? Lets go to Disney World! While other people have to plan a trip to the famous theme park, you have the luxury of just hopping in your car and going for the day. Especially you UCF students with your discounts!

Floridians are a strong and resilient people. From hurricanes to horrible traffic, we are truly a unique and diverse community that loves and appreciates Florida for its natural beauty and rare society.
