Which Dating Apps You Should Try Based On Your Personality

Dating apps can seem overwhelming due to the many options that are out there as well as the different audiences targeted by each app. For instance, there are dating apps based on religion, ethnicity/race, lifestyle, sexuality, and even music preferences. With all these options available, you would think that it would be easy to search and find the dating app that’s best for you.

However, it’s easy to sign up for a dating app and realize after setting up your profile and talking to a few other users that you might not be in the right place. For instance, Tinder is a very popular dating app that initially seems effective but often connects you with other users who prove to be anything but genuine.

Trying out any dating app can be intimidating—especially for those of us who are more introverted and who don’t want to waste our time scrolling through potential matches who end up not wanting the same things as we do. To help you pinpoint which dating app most closely aligns with what you’re looking for, here’s a list of which dating apps you should try based on your personality.

Hinge

This dating app requires a Facebook account, which is perfect for those who are looking for a more meaningful connection. Dating apps that just let you sign up and create a profile often don’t require  any authentication to prove you’re who you say you are, which is both dangerous and detrimental to the hopeless romantic who’s looking for true love. On Hinge, you can even find the profiles of your mutual Facebook friends, which offers reassurance that the potential matches you pursue here can be verified by people you already know and trust.

Bumble

Similar to Tinder, Bumble is a dating app where you swipe left or right depending on whether or not you want to be matched with a specific user. The cool thing about this dating app is that only women can initiate conversations with matches, which makes this app perfect for those girls who don’t want a bunch of unwanted invitations to “Netflix and chill” from users who are likely messaging all their matches the same thing.

Christian Mingle

Designed specifically for Christian singles, Christian Mingle is a safe place to meet and chat with  other Christians. Although this dating app is accompanied by a monthly fee to actually engage with other users, you could get lucky and meet someone within the first month and then cancel your membership. Another workaround to the monthly fee is to find someone you’re interested in on the app and then search for them on other social media platforms to initiate a conversation.

Farmers Only

Don’t be intimidated by the title; you don’t have to be a farmer to use this dating app. Farmers Only was designed for all lovers of the country lifestyle, including animal lovers, ranchers, and cowgirls/cowboys. Like Christian Mingle, Farmers Only is a paid subscription for those wanting to engage in actual conversation, which tends to weed out the disingenuous users.

Miss Travel

This dating app was designed specifically to connect men and women who love to travel. This app encourages women to join by offering all female users a free subscription, whereas men have to pay monthly to use the service. If this dating app sounds kind of like a sugar daddy situation, that’s because it is. Essentially, if you’re a female, you can connect with (typically older) men who will pay for all your travel expenses as long as you travel with them. If you’re into this type of arrangement, then take full advantage of endless free vacations!

Chappy

One of the highest-ranked gay dating apps out there today, Chappy is completely free to use but offers a premium subscription for additional features. Chappy appeals to all types of gay people by including filters to help you find exactly what you’re looking for in a safe space far away from any judgment or bullying that might be encountered on dating apps that cater to both straight and gay users.

HER

Different from Chappy, HER serves both gay and straight women as well as non-binary people. HER is free to use but offers a premium subscription to connect with other users who are online right now and to filter users by sexuality. This app does not allow cisgender men to create accounts, which offers significant reassurance to those individuals who feel uncomfortable in a Tinder-like environment.

Tastebuds

One of the most popular dating apps that matches people based on their music preferences, Tastebuds is free to use but does require a small fee for direct messaging other users. You can, however, send out a “message bomb” where other users can respond, and you can search those you’re interested in on other social media platforms instead of subscribing.

Align

If you’re an astrology lover and base your romantic pursuits on your horoscope, then Align is the perfect place for you to connect with other astrology lovers with whom your sign is compatible. This is another dating app that requires you to log in through Facebook, thereby providing an extra layer of security.

The League

If you’re extremely picky and will only settle for someone with your same social status, then endure the rigorous application process of The League, which absolutely does not guarantee entry to just anyone! This dating app allows you to be as picky as you want when setting criteria for your ideal match, which naturally means there’s a modest fee involved. Even so, if you’re bougie enough to try out this app, then you likely won’t mind the cost.

Hater

One of the more unconventional dating apps, Hater connects people based on their mutual dislikes. While the premise may sound a bit ridiculous, I must admit that I find mutual dislikes more satisfying than mutual appreciations in a partner. If this sounds like you, then Hater is definitely worth a shot—especially since it’s 100% free to download and use.
