Stuck wondering how you’re going to decorate your house this fall? Have an inexplicable love of pumpkins, almost bordering on obsession? Then look no further! Here are ten ideas for you about how you can use pumpkins in your decor this season!
You have to start small. I know September screams fall, but the actual first day isn’t until the end of the month. However, if you just can’t help yourself then just sprinkle a couple here and there on your coffee table. Ease your household into the pumpkin mania.
OH DANG, FALL IS HERE. That’s what you’ll be internally (and maybe externally?) screaming the second September 22nd rolls around. Finally you can kick the pumpkin obsession into high gear. You’re going to be the first one at the pumpkin patch so that you can choose the perfect specimens to line the way to your front door. It’ll help keep the trick-or-treaters off of your lawn too by clearly marking where they should be stepping.
If you have a Cricut, it’s time to bust it out. If you don’t have one, get one. You’re gonna need it to decorate your pumpkin haul. Sure you could carve them as per tradition, but why. It’s messy, and the cuts are never as clean as you want them to be. Then sometimes the pumpkin is just too hard to carve through. Save yourself all of that extra effort and just let the Cricut do all of the work for you. All you’ll have to do is stick on your designs. I suppose you don’t need a Cricut for this, you could do it with regular glue and paper but it just feels like a Cricut project.
If you just happen to have a tiny wagon lying around, then it’s the perfect home for the tiny pumpkins you rescued from the pumpkin patch! Though honestly if you’re going to be using a bunch of pumpkins every year, it might just be better to invest in the fake ones to save you a bit of money. Then you don’t have to worry about them going bad and ruining your tiny wagon and the money you save can go towards a Cricut.
If you get some of those fake pumpkins, you can turn some of them into planters! That’s double the plants with half the responsibility! Even easier if you just plant stuff like succulents that require less care than other more fussy plants (looking at you flowers). This is honestly my best option because I can’t keep plants alive no matter how supposedly indestructible they are. OH! Get fake plants to put inside the fake pumpkin. Power move. Now you’ll have greenery in pumpkins all year round.
OR get the best of both worlds because really it’s not about the pumpkins, it’s about the trip to the pumpkin patch. Get a few real pumpkins and on your way home stop at your local craft store for some of these pumpkin cut outs that you can put tea light or candles in. It’s essentially a fancy jack o’ lantern that won’t rot on you or potentially catch fire (hopefully).
You’ve got your table runner, but you need something to anchor it to the table to keep it from actually running (badum tss). No I’m not apologizing for the pun. A few days before your event head back to the pumpkin patch or your local grocery store or farmers market, whatever is most convenient. Get some of those tiny pumpkin guys and just artfully set them along your table. Not only will it make it look like fall class, but you can have your guests do you a favor and take them home as party favors so you’re not stuck with them. A win for everyone.
THIS IS A GENIUS IDEA BUT WILL REQUIRE A LEVEL OF SKILL I DON’T HAVE. It’s like making a snowman but with pumpkins and paint. It can be whatever you want, woodland creatures, ghosts, a self portrait, whatever. Again, I’d go with fake pumpkins for this particular idea because the thought of so much hard work just getting thrown away once the pumpkins rot sends my soul to another plane of existence. You just can’t do that to yourself, I forbid it. Use the fake pumpkins so that you can enjoy the gourds of your labor for years to come.
This idea is so wholesome and pure that I literally can’t handle it. IT’S JUST SO CUTE UUGGGHH. Again I’d go with the fake pumpkins BECAUSE PUMPKIN ROT GUYS, HOW ARE ANY OF YOU OK WITH THAT. Then all you have to o is swap out the candle when it runs out or just get those tiny battery operated tea lights for everlasting decor. This could be a fun Thanksgiving project for the family to keep the kids entertained. Just set them down with some tarp and paints and let them have at the pumpkins. It’ll keep them occupied so they don’t steal tastes from the kitchen and make them feel good by contributing to the decor for the big family hoopla.
Maybe your pumpkins are too precious, they must be kept safe but you still want to display them for all the world to see. You just don’t want anybody to touch them. Enter clear glass jars. Just fill up as many as you have with your pumpkins and set them wherever you like. On a shelf, on a table, in the window, as a paper weight. You don’t even need anything too fancy, even sticking one or two in a mason jar with greenery will give the room a rustic look while keeping your precious gourds safe.
