10 Ways To Avoid Men Trying To Hit On You At The Bar

Sometimes you just want to go out and have a good time without having to worry about being hit on by various men. You do not want to worry about hurting their feelings, finding a way to let them know you are not interested, or finding a way to discreetly get away from them. Here are 10 ways to help you avoid men trying to hit on you at the bar:

1. Ignore Them

It may not be the best way to get rid of aggressive men, but sometimes ignoring them can be a good way to let them know you are not interested. Don’t engage in conversation, don’t let them buy you a drink, and don’t even look in their direction.

If a man is trying to hit on you and you do not want any part of it, then don’t let them think you do. Do not give him any inclination that you might have even the slightest bit of interest in him. You might smile and think you are just being nice, but he might be thinking your smile means you’re going home with him. Just ignore ignore ignore and hope he goes away.

2. Engage In Conversation With The Bartender

While they might be incredibly busy, and you may not want to distract them, bartenders can be extremely understanding when it comes to you finding a way to get rid of men that will not leave you alone.

Bartenders are also concerned for your safety, so if you discreetly let them know that you are trying to get rid of a man that you do not want to talk to and want to get away from, they will most likely do their best to help you out. Whether it be ordering an Uber, talking to you until they leave you alone, or finding a bouncer to help you out, engaging in conversation with the bartender can be a good option when it comes to ditching a man.

3. Stay Close To A Friend

If you are surrounded by friends all night, it can be hard for men to work their way into or around your friend group. It helps if you have a few guy friends with you. If a guy assumes that one of your guy friends is your boyfriend, it is likely that they will not approach you.

So, if you are looking to just have a fun night with your friends without having to worry about avoiding being hit on, just go with a group of friends and stay close to them at all times!

4. Fake A Significant Other

One of the best ways to get rid of a man that just will not leave you alone is to fake a relationship. However, sometimes men are so aggressive that they will not just take your word for it when you say you are in a relationship, they need to see it to believe it. Therefore, you need to say that one of the people you are with is your significant other.

Whether it be one of your guy friends or one of your girlfriends, just say they are your significant other and role with it. Your friends will always have your back, so you have nothing to worry about there!

5. Have A Friend Call You

If a man is talking your ear off and will not let you enjoy your time at the bar, shoot your friend a quick text and have them call you. Once they do, sound concerned and fake an emergency. Tell the man you need to go right away and run away.

Hopefully you do not have to leave the bar completely, and you can just hide in the bathroom til the coast is clear. But if not, grab your friends and head to another close by bar to continue your fun night out.

6. Say You Have To Go To The Bathroom

To quickly get away from men that will not stop hitting on you, just say you have to go to the bathroom. It’s an easy way out, and more often than not they will just find someone else to talk to  when you walk away.

7. Throw Up Fake Out

A man does not want to deal with you throwing up, especially if they just met you. Most men that are hitting on you in a bar want an easy way out. They want a girl who is looking for exactly what they are, someone to take home and call an Uber for in the morning. They do not want to commit to a night a taking care of you and holding your hair while your head is submerged in a toilet bowl.

So, with that being said, during a conversation with a man you do not want to be talking to, quickly put your hand over your mouth and pretend to have to vomit. After this, excuse yourself and walk quickly to the bathroom. You will effectively be able to avoid this man, and they think they just avoided a night taking care of you. It’s a win-win!

8. Carry A Fake Engagement Ring

If you are not looking to talk to anyone at the bar, and you are not wanting anyone to talk to you, carry a ring with you and slip it on at the start of the night.

Men will look to make sure you do not have a ring before they approach you, but if they do not, you simply say that you’re engaged. They will then look to your finger for verification and they will get exactly what they are looking for.

9. Start Talking To Someone Else

Make it clear that you do not want to talk to someone by averting all of your attention to someone else. Most men can’t handle rejection and will be offended by your response. They will also most likely not care enough to continue to try to talk to you after you brutally reject them.

They will also not want to fight for your attention with another person, so if you begin giving all of your attention to someone else and not them, they will probably leave you alone.

10. Pretend To Speak In Another Language

This is a tactic that most men have picked up on, but still don’t address it. When a man you do not want to converse with begins talking to you, use any knowledge of another language you have and role with it. Even if nothing you say makes any sense and you are essentially just making up words that sound crazy, just present yourself with confidence and they will believe you. If not, they will probably get the hint that you want nothing to do with them.
