10 Vegan Snacks To Try This Week

Whether you are a full-time vegan or just interested in dipping your toe in the vegan waters, snacks are a perfect opportunity to add some variety in your diet. Since not everyone is a vegan pro, these recipes are in order of degree of difficulty. From quick and easy smoothies to pretzel bites (!) there is a vegan snack out there for everyone to try.

1. Smoothie

Smoothies are a great option for breakfasts or if you get hungry in between meals. This is a great go-to since you can use any combination of ingredients to make a great smoothie. If you are worried about fresh fruit going to waste, you can get bags of frozen fruit that are always ready to be blended into a yummy mix. Grab some fruit, almond milk, and vegan protein powder if desired and blend with ice. Once you get the hang of making simple smoothies, you can move on to more fun and complicated ones that use chia seeds, almond butter and more!

2. Fruit Salad

Moving on to a snack that requires just a little more effort, all you have to do is head to the store and grab some in-season fruit! Chop it all up and throw it together in a bowl. From there, think about the dressing. Use full-fat coconut milk and whisk in some fresh lime juice to make a creamy and tangy fruit salad. If you don’t want a saucy salad, try chopping up some fresh mint and adding that! The best part about fruit salad is that you can make a big batch at the beginning of the week and you can snack on it for the rest of the week!

3. Plantain Chips

If you are looking for a little more healthy version of potato chips, try plantains! When it comes to plantain chips, you have two options. You can either buy them already made or try your hand at making them yourself! The key to remember when making plantain chips yourself is that you want to wait until the plantain starts getting spotted or brown. That will ensure the chip comes out crispy and sweet!

4. Vegan Dip

If you want to dress your veggies up, try making a vegan dip to go with them! Say goodbye to store-bought french onion dip and make a vegan version yourself! Carmelize chopped onion and mix it into dairy-free sour cream. Add a little garlic and onion powder to taste and a dash of soy sauce if you like an umami flavor. Dip your potato or plantain chips or veggies in them for a yummy treat!

5. Oven-Roasted Chickpeas

This is another buy at the store or make at home idea! Oven-roasted chickpeas are such a fun, easy to eat snack. If you check them out at the store, you can see that there are tons of options for flavors. Just take a can of chickpeas, drain then toss in olive oil and spread on a baking sheet. If you like something sweet, roast them with cinnamon and sugar or if you want savory, mix with garlic powder.

6. Hummus

Hummus is one of my favorite snacks ever and it’s a great source of protein that you can eat with a variety of dippers! Stores sell so many kinds of hummus but it is easy to make at home too! Mix chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, garlic, and lemon in a food processor or mixer. If you like flavors, try roasted red peppers, extra garlic or my personal favorite, chopped olives. Chop up veggies like cucumbers, carrots and celery and snack away!

7. Banana Bites

If you have a sweet tooth like me, you can’t go wrong with bananas and peanut butter-especially if you add chocolate! This recipe is so easy and is great for an after-dinner snack. Cut a banana into slices and put some peanut butter on a slice and make a sandwich. That alone is delish but if you want to make it more decadent, dip the sandwiches into vegan chocolate and add a sprinkle of sea salt on top for a perfect salty/sweet snack!

8. Everything But The Bagel Seasoning

Anyone who spends any time in Trader Joes or knows anyone who has ever shopped at a Trader Joes has probably heard of their Everything But the Bagel Seasoning. It is literally the best part of those bagels and it tastes good on everything. Seriously on everything. My personal favorite is pairing it with avocados! Either slice up the avocado and mix in the seasoning or kick your avocado toast up a notch with a sprinkle of the seasoning. Before long you won’t be able to live without the seasoning!

9. Energy Bites

This snack is a little more of a recipe that involves some effort but with just 3 ingredients, it’s an easy, go-to bite. Combine 1 cup of peanut butter, a 1/3 cup of maple syrup and finally a 1/2 cup of coconut flour. Mix in a bowl until it’s combined then cover the bowl and put in the fridge for 10 minutes. Then, scoop the dough into balls then put back in the freezer to set. Keep them in the fridge and snack on them all week long! If you aren’t a fan of peanut butter, feel free to try any other type of nut butter and try out adding shredded coconut or chocolate chips to make it more fun!

10. Vegan Soft Pretzels

This is the most complicated of the snack ideas but it is definitely worth it to have a huge amount of pretzel bites. According to the recipe, it makes almost 70 little pretzels and the flavor ideas are endless. Make a batch of hummus or dip and you’ll have the perfect, well-rounded snack! If you’re feeling extra fancy, make a batch of vegan cheese dip-the creator of the pretzel recipe has a recipe for cheese dip too!
