The Ways To Treat Hormonal Acne Without The Help Of A Dermatologist

You know those spots that always seem to creep on you at the same time every month, aren’t they just the worst? These are the spots that are most likely to appear on your jawline or around your mouth as well as around the sides of your face. Well if this sounds familiar, it is most likely hormonal acne and there are ways to help treat them – although they are notoriously difficult to deal with without professional help.

Hormonal acne is one of the reasons that many women resort to birth control pills in order to help control their hormones. Furthermore, hormonal acne is a result of excess oil production due to spiked hormone levels that cause skin cells to become sticky, which leads to clogged pores and breakouts. Contraceptive pills help to balance and control all these hormones with artificial hormones. You might be considering coming off the pill and giving your body a bit of a break but are, perhaps, concerned about the impact it might have on your skin.

While it is very likely that your skin might take a little turn for the worst once your body realizes that it is off hormones, it does get better if you can manage to stick it out…Whether you are on or off contraception, here are a few ways to help treat hormonal acne without the help of a dermatologist!

1. Make sure to wash your face regularly

If you do suffer from hormonal acne, it is unlikely that you don’t know this one already. It’s important to use mild products that are designed for acne-prone skin and to wash your skin when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. Mild exfoliants can also feel really nice and will make you feel like you’re scrubbing away the dirt.

2. Apply Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil works by decreasing inflammation that can contribute to acne and it really works. One study found that 5 percent topical tea tree oil relieved symptoms in participants with mild to moderate acne. Tea tree oil comes in many forms like in cleansers or toners, or blemish sticks that can be applied to spots directly.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is also well known for decreasing inflammation in the body. For a more holistic approach, consider drinking a few cups per day besides practicing your topical skin care regimen. Lotions and gels containing at least 2 percent green tea extract may be also be a good option to look into to use on your face.

4. Drink Water

Water will help to flush out toxins in the body which is want you want to when your skin is acting up. Consuming water will help your skin to moisturize itself and to clean out the build up of waste in your skin. However, it will not help to control your oil production which is usually the main cause of hormonal acne.

5. Avoid Sugar

Although you might want to reach for the chocolate and junk food when you’re feeling hormonal (that’s ok), just try not to overdo it completely. As what you’re trying to do is reduce inflammation and fast food will just lead to more inflammation in the body. Try to go for foods with lots of antioxidants and nutrients instead.

6. Don’t Worry!

Although it seems like the end of the world when your skin gets really bad, it really is not. The good thing about hormonal acne is that, for the most part, it will pass and won’t last forever. So, stay strong and try not to let it get you down too much!

The most important thing to remember is to find a routine that works for you and to stick to it. Don’t go overboard on the products, just try to be consistent with the ones you do like to use. Everyone’s skin is different and what might work for one person, might not work for someone else but you have to try a few different things to find out what does work for you! Keep going, you’re not alone in feeling like this!
