Let’s leave 2017 fashion trends in the past and start the New Year with spring fashion trends to try in 2018. Who says you can’t be on-trend while sticking with your New Year’s resolutions? You could easily abandon them entirely in favour of skipping the gym, lying in your unwashed sheets, and eating a copious amounts of leftover Christmas chocolate. Get up and re-do your entire wardrobe, which is a popular New Year’s resolution for many of the trend-obsessed. Now is the perfect time to dream up your new-season wardrobe for the spring/summer. These picks were heavily inspired from the trends we saw sashaying down the runway during SS18 fashion week.
Checkmate; as seen worn by Stella Tennant while walking for Balenciaga. Checked garments were featured prominently in the fashion house’s SS18 ready-to-wear collection, signalling that classic heritage checks are going to be a key trend for the upcoming year. It is certainly more than simply Burberry’s trademark print.

You’re probably thinking, “For spring? How ground-breaking.” While pastels for spring/summer aren’t ground-breaking, they are trendy if it’s monochromatic. Colour-blocked pastel outfits were seen on Victoria Beckham, Loewe, and Hermès during the SS18 shows. They are easy to recreate without breaking the bank; simply throw together all of your monochromatic pastel garments to recreate a Sies Marjan’s pale green look.

Make up for your lack of primary school artistic talent, by embracing the primary colour-blocking trend. As seen on the SS18 runways of Marni, Preen, and Balenciaga. Snag a Ermanno Scervino and invest in a bright puffer coat, or embrace the soft, feminine lines of Givenchy’s pleated dresses.

Did you think hands free was just for Bluetooth headsets? Beloved by celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, bumbags are the must-have accessory of the SS18 moment. Wear one to complete a kitschy sportswear-led outfit, or pack a punch by teaming them with a feminine dress. Bumbags combine function and fashion into one—especially in the case of Saint Laurent’s tiny bumbag which is a must have accessory. This is one of the best spring fashion trends.

Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Isabel Marant were all feeling plastic fantastic for SS18. To emulate the catwalk this season, don’t be afraid to combat the British drizzly weather with practical plastic garments of all kinds, in a rainbow of colours. Plus, if Chanel has taught us anything for SS18, it’s not to underestimate the power of a good plastic mackintosh—even though it might not be in your grandmother’s favour.

Avoid being relegated of fringes from sartorial society and embrace this SS18 trend. Although fringing might currently be synonymous with music festivals. Chanel, Loewe, and, Céline have made it their New Year’s resolution to change that. They adorned their models with luxe fringing that was a far cry from being boho-chic, definitely one of the best spring fashion trends.
