Teesside University is a small but diverse University with around 30,000 students from across the Globe, so you’re bound to meet all kinds of people during your time as a student there. Whether you want them to or not, there are some characters that will show up time and time again every year. Here are 10 of the most common types of people you’ll always run on campus at Teesside University.

1. The international student who puts your “big move” away from home to shame

Just as you are beginning to feel proud about moving away from home and fending for yourself for the first time, you’ll always run into one of Teesside Uni’s many international students. Whether they’re from China, India, Africa or somewhere in Europe, that brave globetrotter will certainly put your “big move” into perspective! 2. The varsity player who excels at everything

Although varsity isn’t as big at Teesside as it is at other Universities, you’ll always run into a talented sportsperson or athlete who seems to excel in everything they do. How do they even find the time to train, compete, attend lectures and meet assignment deadlines? I guess only they know how. This is someone you’ll always run into at Teesside University! These are just some of the people on campus at Teesside University.

3. The Geordie who’s actually from Sunderland (cringe… my bad!)

I am not proud to admit that I have made this mistake myself. Don’t be that person who presumes that someone is from Newcastle based on an accent you’re not even that familiar with. Geordies and Mackems are not to be confused! Do yourself a favour and be sure to ask where people are from rather than guessing – you’ll keep yourself out of trouble that way! These are just some of the people on campus at Teesside University.

4. The guy who never leaves his room

During you stay in student halls, there will always be one guy who never leaves his room. You may hear him through the wall or bump into him in your shared kitchen occasionally, but barely enough to remember he even lives there. 5. The local student who can’t understand why you chose to live in Middlesbrough

At Teesside University, you’ll always run into a few local students who decided to stay at home and commute to campus. They’ll probably quiz you on why you chose to move to Middlesbrough over going to a big city and won’t understand the appeal of their hometown! These are just some of the people on campus at Teesside University.

6. The mother figure who takes care of everyone

You’ll always run into a mother figure during your time living in halls or in a student house at Teesside University. They could be someone who cooks for everyone, gives hard to hear advice when you need it most, or does the grocery shopping in their car each week, but you’ll no doubt be able to spot the mother figure in your vicinity!

7. The club promoter tempting Freshers with free entry to Go Ninja!

During Freshers week, you’re bound to run into an enthusiastic club promoter offering free entry to one of Middlesbrough’s nightclubs. The big one when I was a student at Teesside, was Go Ninja! They’ll have all the best drink deals at their fingertips and can get you onto club shortlists, so if you like to party, make friends with a promoter!

8. The borrower who never has a pen

There’ll be at least one person on your course who repeatedly turns up to lectures without a pen! You’d think after years of school and college, they’d know to bring some stationery to class by now, but you’ll always run into a borrower during your time at Teesside University!

9. The procrastinator who does everything last minute!

Similarly, you’ll also run into a procrastinator who leaves everything until the last minute and then has a meltdown at the end of term. Don’t worry if this is you, I too did this a few times during my time at Teesside University, but you’ll knuckle down and get it done in the end!

10. The clever one who didn’t quite make the grade and had Teesside as their second choice

Even if Teesside University was your top pick when applying through UCAS, you’ll likely run into someone who had it in reserve as their second choice. They’ll likely be someone clever, who stands out in your cohort, but didn’t quite make the grade to get into a more prestigious University. They needn’t worry though as Teesside Uni makes everyone feel welcome!
