5 Local Pubs To Try In The Borough Of Bexley

Who says you need to go up London for a drink? The average cocktail price in the City can range anywhere from £9-£16+. To put it mildly, they aren’t cheap and the merrier you become, the more likely you are to drink yourself out of your monthly pay and into bankruptcy (okay slight exaggeration here). I had always considered myself a bar or club girl but I have recently found a new love for local establishments and am proud to call myself a pub girl. The prices are cheaper, the people aren’t pretentious, you don’t have to dress up like you are about to step onto a runway, and the atmosphere is always lively. So the purpose of this article is to shine a light on 5 local pubs you NEED to try in the Borough of Bexley.

1. The Red Barn.

I am going to be biased and talk about The Red Barn first. Once you have visited once, you will soon find yourself converted into one of the locals. This really is a pub for everyone, attracting a varied crowd of old and young, the atmosphere is always warm and buzzing- you can expect a full pub no matter what day of the week it is! This pub is genuine, humble and also knows how to provide amusement. There is a pool table, darts board, as well as live entertainment and karaoke every month.

A function room which opens out onto an outdoor seating area can be found downstairs and there is also an upstairs seating area at the front of the pub. This is the perfect spot for catching the sun and watching the world go by. Food and drinks are inexpensive but there is no compromise on the quality of both. You won’t be disappointed: your intention to have one drink will see you staying until closing time. It really is the best Bexley has to offer (in my opinion of course).

2. The Nags Head.

Recently refurbished, this local pub in Bexley has reaffirmed its great reputation. This pub offers great value for money, in terms of both drink and grub that caters for all dietary types. It is ideal for both families and groups of friends, again like The Barn, it attracts a varied crowd and the atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially of a weekend where you can expect a live DJ.

3. The Wharf.

This pub really doesn’t feel like it is situated in the Borough of Bexley, especially in the hot weather, instead it is as if you have been transported somewhere abroad. The pub itself is composed of different levels but undeniably, the pub’s main selling point is its outside seating area. Stairs lead you onto a decked area of raised tables with a view overlooking a beautiful lake, and for those that are tempted to dive a little deeper, there is an additional platform that leads to seating even closer to the water. This pub is scenic and classy and boasts of an eclectic menu offering a variety of cuisines.

4. The William Camden.

This is a spacious local pub in the Borough of Bexley, the main noteworthy feature being the outdoor pub garden – perfect for taking your drink outside to toast the hot summer currently engulfing England. There is also a smaller outside seating area and then inside there is a whole room dedicated to pool table, and another with the obligatory fruit machines and television screens- so there is certainly more to do than just eat and drink! This pub like many has its locals, but overall it attracts a young, lively crowd. You can expect standard, reasonable pub prices and friendly and attentive staff. This pub is perfect to sink a few with friends before moving on elsewhere, or to spend the night there.

5. The New Cross Turnpike.

I had to include this pub last because it is a Weatherspoon’s pub and we all know what that means don’t we? That’s right: cheap food and drink deals as well as different themed culinary nights throughout the week- my favourite is the curry club on a Thursday, you can’t really go wrong with this! There is the option to order and pay at the bar or to use the Weatherspoon’s app when seated at a table- I’d go for the latter option as tables can go fast due to the popularity of the pub! The Turnpike also has an outdoor seating area that is too tempting not to visit on hot summer days and nights.

So there you have it, a list of 5 local pubs to try in the Borough of Bexley. Can you think of any others? If so, then answer in the comment section which follows this article!
