Ladies, the majority of us know the dreaded feeling of the cramps, wanting to eat everything in sight. Realising we don’t have any tampons or pads at hand is the worst, as we usually go through so many in the previous cycle and just forget about it once its over. If only we had some more sustainable alternatives to tampons and pads…
Yes, period underwear is probably one of the best investments you could make without breaking your bank and saves you from feeling uncomfortable during your cycle. WUKA’s period panties have proven to be some of the best with the BBC rating them 5/5, as they are comfortable, there are no leakage issues, and are of course reusable after washing. The future of period tech.
Forget tampons, Menstrual discs and cups are the next best alternatives to tampons and pads as they are reusable so avoid excess waste in comparison to tampons.
Flex Discs – This disc lasts up to 12 hours, fits the individuals body, do not disturb sex, and is not linked to Toxic shock syndrome.

The sponges can be used to prevent the period before it starts by inserting a sponge. A lot of them looking similar to bath sponges. They are also reusable and affordable so our great for the planet and your bank balance.
Beppy Soft Comfort Tampons are another alternative. These sponges are very comfortable to wear, should not disturb sex, and are quick and easy to use. They also have no strings attached (literally) although this could lead to the extraction being messy.
This may sound unhygienic but reusable pads are easy to wash and they definitely avoid waste and will help you save money, and also with the variety of patterns available it may make your period more fun.
Cheeky Mama Cloth Sanitary Pads – Instead of the usual cotton these pads are made of bamboo, which are slightly thicker than the usual cotton so they are more absorbent, and they are also extremely eco-friendly so should make you feel like you are contributing to the planets welfare whilst wearing them.
