Growing plants is a great way to de-stress and spend some time in the sun this summer. As well as being scientifically proven to improve your mood, these plants are easy to grow, and beautiful too. Here is a breakdown of the top 8 plants to grow this summer!
Basil is a great, easy windowsill plant to grow. You typically water it every other day and tend to see shoots within 2 weeks, making it a very rewarding plant. As well as being an easy plant to grow, basil is also an awesome plant to put on your food, so there’s no reason not to grow it.
Watercress is arguably one of the easiest plants to grow. It is another simple, windowsill plant which doesn’t require a lot of attention. You make sure the roots are submerged and change the water every one to two weeks and that’s basically all the attention it requires. Watercress is also an underrated superfood, it contains more vitamin c than oranges, more calcium than milk and more iron than spinach! How about that for an easy windowsill plant?!
Pansies are great plants to grow and don’t require a lot of watering. These beautiful flowers only need watering once a week, so are very low maintenance. Moreover, pansies smell good and don’t attract any pests, so rest assured your garden is safe with these. As an added bonus, you can also eat these flowers! Put them on top of cakes or in a salad, another great reason to plant these.
Mint is one of my favourite plants to grow, it’s easily maintained and you can eat it! It’s rich in vitamins A, C and B2, so are a great plant to have around. Add it to cool drinks in the summer, use it to make your own mint tea or add it to chocolate cake! Mint needs to be watered 3 to 4 times a week, so watering it every other day is your best bet. This is a great herb to grow, so I highly recommend planting it this summer.
Radishes are a great tasty plant to grow. Again, they’re another low maintenance plant, just make sure that the soil stays moist and water it every other day. It’s a great plant to add to your summer salads and looks pretty in your garden too!
Sweet Peas are another beautiful plant to grow in your garden which only need watering once a week! Sweet Peas come in a huge variety of colours so you can plant lots of different varieties in your garden for the ultimate Instagram goals. These plants are also great for gifting, they symbolise thanks for a good time or as a way of saying goodbye so could be a great flower to have around.
Marigolds are lovely flowers which are must-have plants for anyone’s garden. They only need watering once a week – and more if the soil is dry – so they’re easy to keep alive. Marigolds also smell amazing, and it is said that they have healing properties. Regardless of if they do, Marigolds are some of the brightest, stunning flowers around, and will be a great addition to anyone’s garden.
Peonies are another great plant to grow this summer. They only need watering roughly once a week and come in lots of different colours so you can choose from different varieties for your garden. Peonies often grow large petals and can be very fragrant. These flowers are also very hardy, so they’re sure to last you through the winter ready to bloom again the next year, a definite staple for anyone worried about their flowers survival!
