10 Tips For Achieving Beautiful Hair

Whether your hair is long, short, curly, straight or anything in between, there’s no denying that everyone aspires to have beautiful hair. Over time, we do so many things to our hair that we don’t even realize are harming it. If you’re just as clueless as I am when it comes to hair care, you’ve come to the right place. Here are 10 tips for achieving beautiful hair!

1. Don’t wash your hair every day!

Contrary to popular belief, washing your hair every day isn’t as glamorous as you might think. Washing your hair everyday can result in stripping away natural oils and can dry out your hair and scalp, not to mention all of the harsh chemicals that shampoo can contain isn’t ideal for everyday use. Natural oils are important for your scalp and hair, so try switching to washing your hair every second or third day. Your hair might be not on board with it for the first couple of weeks, but eventually, it will begin to adjust to the change.

2. Hair Treatments are your best friend.

Treatments are a holy tool from the hair gods, and there is so many different types of treatments too! Treatments are available to add moisture to your hair if your hair is prone to drying out, repairing any damage from heat styling or over coloring, or even treatments to maintain color or to keep your blonde highlights looking gorgeous!

3. Speaking of treatments, don’t be afraid to use natural products.

Now when I say natural products, I mean natural. Products such as coconut and castor oil are told to be age old remedies for beautiful and luscious hair, plus the best part is these products are super nourishing and contain no harsh chemicals. You can even mix these kinds of products together to make some pretty awesome hair masks.

4. Salon products are the best products.

I’m not here to shame beauty products. However, if you are looking to achieve the best possible result for beautiful hair, you want to start looking at salon based products. If you already use salon products, you’re on the right track. If not, go to a salon and ask for some advice on what professional product would best suit your hair. Yes, I know, they do come at a higher cost, but from personal experience, professional brands do a fantastic job and are definitely worth the price.

5. Massage your scalp on a normal basis.

Massaging your scalp can do wonders for your hair. Not only is it relaxing and can help relieve headaches, it also stimulates the blood flow in your scalp, which encourages your hair to grow. If you really feel like pampering yourself, combine a scalp massage with a treatment, a face-mask, and even a bubble bath.

6. Use styling products with heat protection.

I can’t stress enough how important heat protection is for your hair. When you use a straightener or curling iron, the temperature of those irons can reach up to 230 degrees celsius, which is pretty damn hot (those who have burnt their skin resulting in ugly blisters will share this pain.) So just imagine what a 230-degree Celsius iron is doing to your hair without protection. You guessed it, a lot of damage. A majority of styling products such as serums, creams, and sprays have heat protection in them, so don’t be afraid to use them. This is definitely one of the most important tips for achieving beautiful hair!

7. Take your vitamins!

Any sort of vitamins is good for your body, and thankfully hair, skin and nail vitamins are a thing. Containing ingredients such as Biotin (assisting with strengthening) and Silica (assisting with collagen formation.) Taking these vitamins every day will help make your hair beautiful.

8. Go for regular haircuts.

I know what you’re thinking, how am I supposed to achieve beautiful hair if I keep cutting it? Well, without regular visits to the hairdressers for a haircut, any damage you do to your hair will continue to stay there. Also, when split ends occur, unless they are given the chop, there’s a chance they will continue to rise higher and higher up the hair, which will result in more of your hair getting the chop when you visit the salon next (which if you’re trying to grow your hair long, is your worst living nightmare.) It is recommended that you visit the salon every 6 weeks for at least a trim. Plus, having any damaged hair cut off will make your hair feel beautiful and brand new again!

9. Don’t brush your hair when it’s wet.

I, myself, am a victim of knotty hair when it comes to my hair being freshly washed, and it is completely normal to reach for a brush to get out all the knots. Although using a brush to get through the knots isn’t the best for your hair. When your hair is wet, it’s at its weakest state. So, when you run a brush through it, it can result in breakage. Try using a serum spray to soften the knots, and use a wide tooth comb to detangle. It may take a little longer, but it’ll save your hair from breaking.

10. Wash your hair with warm water.

It may seem like not being able to taking a scorching hot shower means the end of the world, but it doesn’t. Letting your hair run under extremely hot water for a long period of time does it no justice! Try turning down the heat a notch or two and take warm showers, and always make sure to rinse your hair with cold water once you’ve washed out all the product!
