6 Things To Do At Home If You’re Not Going Away For Spring Break

The summer-tease that everyone looks forward to after the new year rings in is right around the corner: spring break. Students leave their college campuses to travel to an array of vacation spots, in hopes to booze and bronze it up. However, extreme FOMO sets in if you’re not going away for spring break, or your spring break includes going home to your hometown thats most likely deserted. If you live in the Midwest, your spring break might even still be frigid and chilly! The plus side? Not having to cram in a crash diet before rocking your beach bod…am I right?! Have no fear though, time off can still be a blast at home especially if you’re not going away for spring break. Here are six things to prove it!

1. Basement Camping

Now, if you’re going home to the Midwest for spring break, you most likely wont be greeted with the most spring-like weather. If that’s the case, round up your siblings or friends from home to camp out in the basement! Include sleeping bags, air mattresses, movies, popcorn, even s’mores (DIY hack…toast your ‘mallows inside over the kitchen stove)! If you’re feeling brave, and have perhaps one or two space heaters casually lying around, try setting up tents out in the backyard for a true camping experience! Don’t forget to build the fire and get your portable speaker in hand! Who needs a beach if you’re not going for spring break?!

2. Reality TV Wine Night

Binge watch your favorite reality TV shows, or any shows in general, with a wine and cheese board night, making the best use of your warm and cozy home if you’re not going away for spring break! Invite over your best girlfriends, arrange an array of deli meats, cheeses, hummus, chips, dip…whatever your heart desires! Have each of your ladies bring their fav wine, pop on the Bachelor premiere, and drink the night away!

3. Thrifting

Spring is an awkward transition season, in my personal opinion. Our closets that are stuffed full suddenly seem so useless and empty, as we struggle to put together outfits that aren’t full on eskimo, yet not full on crop-top summertime. If you’re not going away for spring break, take a trip to a nearby city or towns thrift shops! You’ll find super cool, unique out pieces that you can take back to school with you, especially if you’re on a budget. Whether it be large hoodies, graphic tees, or an amazing pair of vintage jeans…spring shopping will get you out of the winter blues! You can even pick up some cool sunglasses or shoes to pair with a newer item of clothing hanging in your closet, as well.

4. Animal Shelter Volunteering

Don’t be sad that you’re not going away for spring break, go play with puppies! A local animal shelter is surely always looking for help, so going in and asking to help out during your week home may be the perfect solution for your spring break. Your heart will feel extremely warm and full knowing you’re spending time with precious animals…you might even feel compelled to adopt!

5. Plan a Staycation

Regardless of where you live, your hometown probably has local resorts and hotels among vast night life options whether they’re in your town or you have to road trip a few hours away! If you’re not going away for spring break, you can still make the most of your week with a staycation! Look up local hotels and rates, and stay a night or two with some friends or your significant other.

Planning dinner and drinks can be a whole lot more fun if you get to enjoy yourself without the worry of how you’re getting home. Spending the night in a city, especially like Chicago, can feel like a relaxing and fun getaway from your normal hometown.

6. Paint and Wine Class

Get your creative juices flowing (with the help of some adult grape juice…wink wink) by attending a paint and wine class in your hometown! If you’re not going away for spring break, it’s important to make the most of your week at home by doing something fun and creative! A paint and wine class will allow you to pick a painting to replicate, pick your booze, then paint away with the help of an instructor! Not only is this a super fun way to spend a night, but it can also be easily replicated at-home! Buy some painting goodies and canvases, along with a few bottles of your favorite wine, and unleash your inner artist.

Staying home from spring break definitely does not have to be a total bore. With some of these at-home, fun ideas, you won’t dwell in the FOMO of not going away for spring break!
