10 Things To Do Around Kent State University That Are Free

Having a good time in Kent does not necessarily mean you need to spend a ton of money! There are plenty of free things to do on and off campus to fill your free time. Check out these 10 free things to do around Kent State University and suggest these the next time your friend group is bored.

1) Tom S. Cooperrider-Kent Bog State Nature Preserve

No matter what the temperature outside, you can always adventure down to the Nature Preserve and take in the beautiful sites and wildlife. The trails and walkways are enclosed by trees which is sure to please during the fall months.

2) Real Late Reels

Head to the Kiva next to the Student Center for free film! All of the show times and movies are listed on Kent’s website. Grab your friends and your favorite snacks for a fun filled night right on campus.

3) Akron Art Museum

Have a day taking in the sites at Akron Art Museum because on Thursdays; admission is free. From the outside architecture to the pieces inside you will not be disappointed. Afterwards adventure around Akron and visit the cute shops and coffee houses.

4) Live Music in Downtown

If the weather is nice on a summer night you can find a crowd gathered downtown for live music. This is totally free and you can come and go as you please! This is perfect for you who cannot commit to just one event.

5) Have Your Own Photoshoot

Most of Kent is covered with amazing murals from out own student body. Grab your friends (with nice cameras) and use the free art as a backdrop to revamp your portfolios! Odds are someone has a nice camera and a knack for styling.

6) Cheer on Your Favorite Sports Team

All Kent sporting events are absolutely free (with you flashcard) so you have no excuse not to attend at least one in your college career. Supporting your school is always a good way to spend your time and you get flash perks too; win win! 

 

7) Check Out the Fashion Museum

Again with the help of your flashcard you can view timeless, couture clothing inside of the Fashion School. Two floors of garments from different eras and parts of the world will mesmerize you and make you forget you’re in Kent.

Pick a Ted Talk that excites you and your friends and make a night of it. Kent hosts numerous different speakers and topics so you’re sure to stumble across one that interests you.

9) Hit the Gym

Kent Rec Center at Kent State University occasionally has free workout classes as promotional events. Make sure to take advantage of these because you might find something you love.

10) Munroe Falls Metro Park

Whether you want to swim, bike, or hike; this park has it all. Get the girls together for a hiking adventure or plan a romantic walk in the park for absolutely no charge. This park allows for fun through all seasons near Kent State University.
