10 Things Meghan Markle Is No Longer Allowed To Do

Many girls dream about what it would be like to be royalty. From a young age, they dream of being a princess and all that comes with it. However, it is not as glamorous as it appears. As Meghan Markle now knows, there are things that are sacrificed once someone joins Britain’s royal family. Once she married Harry, she had to change her life and these things that she is no longer allowed to do.

1. Publicly express her political views

Meghan has always been someone who is vocal about her political beliefs. However, now that she is a member of the royal family, she is no longer allowed to express her political opinions. She is not allowed to vote, which is technically only a rule for the Queen, but the whole royal family practices this rule.

2. Take selfies

In the age of the cell phones, selfies have become prevalent. However, Meghan is no longer allowed to take selfies, whether it is on her own or with fans. This rule is to enforce eye contact with, and from, those she is speaking to in crowds.

3. Use her personal social media accounts

Even if she could take selfies, she would not be able to post them to her own personal social media accounts. Her personal accounts have been inactive for months. Now, Kensington Palace uses their social media accounts to keep followers updated.

4. Public displays of affection with Harry

While the couple was fairly open with PDA and would hold hands, those days are over. While there is no official rule put out by the royal family, this piece of etiquette is merely in place to have royal couples show professionalism in their new roles abroad.

5. Sign autographs outside of official documents

As a TV star, Meghan signed many autographs for her fans. However, this is no longer allowed, and with good reason. The royal family is concerned that family members who sign autographs are at a higher risk of forgery. Therefore, they want to keep autographs out of the picture.

6. Wear clothing that shows off bare legs

Meghan’s fashion sense has always been exquisite. Since she is now part of the royal family, even her fashion needs to change. She is no longer allowed to expose her bare legs. At the minimum, she needs to wear nude-colored stockings if her legs are visible.

7. Cross her legs when she sits

Being a royal comes with a certain way of sitting. Meghan can no longer cross her legs when she sits. She can, however, cross her ankles. She must keep her legs and knees together, a pose known as “the Duchess Slant.”

8. Wear colored nail polish

Many girls find choosing a nail polish to wear to be a difficult feat since there are so many choices out there. Meghan’s decision-making has become simpler as she can only wear nude or baby pink nail polish, as per royal ruling.

9. Go out alone

This is one rule that makes sense for security reasons. Like U.S. Presidents, Meghan  Markle cannot go out without having security with her, and she always will have them. Even her mother has her own security guards.

10. She can no longer act

Since she is now a royal, Meghan Markle is no longer allowed to act. Like Grace Kelly, she had to give up her acting career, which makes sense since she will now be busy with royal duties and experiencing new things. Besides, she will be living in England, so the commute would be tough.
