These Hair Trends Are In And They’re “Bigger” Than Ever

Big Hair Trends are back in style in ya’ll! For both men and women, big hair became popular in the 1980s. It was inspired by the metal, all of the goth and alternative culture during this period. If you want extra texture, volume, and want to incorporate some oversized accessories then joining the Big Hair Trends might just be perfect for you. Truthfully, dressing up my hair has never been something I have done. I think that comes from being an athlete growing up when throwing my hair up into a ponytail or messy bun was just… easier. I still do that. I don’t wear my hair down or fancy it up to some degree. If you’re like me and do the same thing, then we are in this life together, girlfriend. But if you are into all of the Big Hair Trends or just want to indulge yourself back into the life of the 1980’s, then read below as I have some the biggest hair trends that you just might have to try out this summer.

Let’s first talk about why you should dress up your hair and previously mentioned, if you don’t like too, that’s totally fine. We’re all different and unique, so always do what makes YOU comfortable and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Not only does your hair enhance your beauty, but let’s face it, it can make you look professional or simply the opposite (a bum). Although I may not dress up my hair, I always make sure that it’s not messy or tangled. I have it put together and neat, even if it’s just a simple non-messy bun. Your hair can also give you confidence and if you’re like me, just a little more confidence that what you already have goes a long way. Often times your hair can make you feel in control of yourself and what you’re doing.

What I do love about hair is how it can complement your brightest and unique features of your face, or it kind parts of your face that you don’t necessarily want people to see. Have a scar on your ear that you don’t want others to see. It’s easy, leave your hair down and don’t put it behind your ear. Another thing, if you dress up your hair, you might just feel more smarter. As the saying goes, “A good hair day is a good day.” Or something like that at least. And it’s true. Honestly, sometimes if my bun isn’t how I want it to be, it can make me frustrated and the day will sometimes go downhill from there. It’s silly, I know. But it’s true and I think we’ve all been there. Lastly, you’re hair can show a lot of people how you take care of yourself and in these chaotic times, it’s important to take care of yourself, even the simplest thing like your beautiful hair.

The Scrunchie is back

Now a days, hair ties can just be too tight and uncomfortable. They tug at your hair and even take your hair out when removing it. Many people have moved onto tangle-free elastics, but even sometimes those don’t work. If you’re fan of the nostalgic, use a scrunchie. They won’t break your hair, they’re difficult to use, they durable, and if you’re having a bad hair day, throw a scrunchie in and you already have a stylish hair.

Big Blowouts

Long ago big blowouts were in and although they disappeared for a few decades, they are back in style. This 80s Big Hair Trends includes using mouse with a round brush with some simple easy steps.

Step 1: Clean your hair and dry about 70% of it with a hair dryer.

Step 2: Curling time. Working in small sections, use a a large curling iron to create big loose waves. You can also use hot rollers.

Step 3: Keep curling.

Step 4: Add volume by using mouse, but don’t overload it or it will just become messy.

Step 5: Leave in place and voila!

Wispy bangs

Do you like bangs? If so, try the wispy bang style trend. Bangs alone can easily transform your face shape and showcase your most beautiful facial features. Wispy bangs alone can help contract sharper jaw lines and give you that edgy look that you are looking for. Wear your bangs with long curls, chop them up, keep them soft, make them overgrown, or do short side bangs, whichever you prefer!

Look at Selena Gomez with her wispy bangs. She looks absolutely stunning!

Curls on Curls on Curls

I don’t know about you, but I love me some curls (even though I don’t fancy up my hair) and in the 80s, women LOVED curls. Why? It was one of the best ways to provide your hair texture, but also keep it natural as well. Check out some of the looks below and even modern day looks of curling hair.

80s vs. Today

How to curl your hair:

Go Short because why not?

Another one of the Big Hair Trends? Short and Shaggy. Not only do curls look great, but so can a chin cut, too. Put those two together and you have got a flattering, but unique hair style look that people will be dying to have. This classic cut can transform your hair into something big and nostalgic because this was one of the most popular hairstyles back in the day.

If you are a fan of the big hair styles, there are some limitations that you should follow. That’s why I have some dos and don’ts to help you out!

Do… use volume.

Don’t… go too wild or hair will just look chaotic and not put together.

Do… show off your natural curls and waves if you can.

Don’t… overstyle your hair because if you’re using a lot of product, it can ultimately ruin or damage your beautiful locks.

Do… experiment, but don’t be afraid to contact your hairstylist/salon for tips and tricks.
