10 Themed Parties That Are Perfect For Adults

Themed parties are no longer just for kids and Sweet 16’s! Check out these ten themes that are perfect for adding a little variety to your gatherings this year, and spice up your boring typical parties this weekend!

1) Gatsby/Roaring 20’s

We’ve all seen that epic scene in The Great Gatsby where Leo DiCaprio throws the most boujie party we’ve ever seen, full of champagne fountains, flappers and glamour. We’re not saying you have to go full-on Gatsby here, but throwing a prohibition party can be super fun. Make it a dress-up party and deck out your pad with gold and glitter. Pinterest has TONS of printable signs and cute DIYS to turn your house into a 20’s era speakeasy, so crack out the bubbly and whip out those pearls. This party is sure to be over the top, and a whole lot of fun!

2) Alien/Space

With the current obsession over Area 51, Stranger Things and UFO sightings, now is the perfect time to throw an alien themed party! Decorate your ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars, make signs using neon paint, cover EVERYTHING in tinfoil, and download the Stranger Things theme song. Do up your hair with some space buns, go all out and do some rave-inspired makeup and wear just about anything holographic and you’re ready to go! This party is sure to be out of this world!

3) Murder Mystery

Are you and your best buds huge fans of murder mysteries? Have you read just about every Steven King novel out there? Throw a murder mystery party! Deck out your house with caution tape, map out the scene of the crime complete with a “chalk outline” and set up a series of games and clues for you and your friends to solve throughout the night. See if you and your friends can figure out who the killer is! Check out thespruce.com for tips, games and hints on how to throw the perfect murder mystery evening!

4) Luau

Aloha! If you’re looking for fun outdoor party ideas for this summer, you really can’t go wrong with a luau. Mix up some Pina coladas, buy some little cocktail umbrellas and make sure everyone “gets leid” (We’re talking about the flower necklaces here, people). Set up a volleyball net, blow up some beach balls and light the tiki torches! Dust off those old hula hoops and channel your inner Lilo. Grass skirts are always a fun little touch, just make sure you wear something under it. Those things itch!

5) Casino Night

We’re more than willing to bet that you and your friends love visiting the casino every now and then, but you’re not a big fan of spending all that money. Next time you and your pals decide to spend a night in, have a casino night of your own! Have each guest bring a deck of cards, serve black and red snacks, and place some bets! If you don’t want to use actual money, bet using drinks, or make the loser do something silly! The best part? The house always wins!

6) Camping

If you have a big back yard, you might want to consider throwing a camping party this Summer. Have everyone bring a tent and a sleeping bag, set up a camp fire and get supplies for s’mores! Barbecue some hot dogs and hamburgers, and tell ghost stories before bed! Invite some musically inclined friends and sing along to the strumming of an acoustic guitar. Just make sure to have plenty of bug spray handy. Nothing like mosquitos to ruin a fun night under the stars!

7) Beer Olympics/Around The World

This is an old standby for anyone who’s gone away to college, but as we get older we tend to forget about this theme, and as we all know… everything gets better with age! Make teams and assign each team a country. Set up a leader board, and record all the scores from each event. If you’ve never participated in Beer Olympics before, don’t stress! We’ve got you! It’s basically a combination of classic drinking games (dizzy bat, beer pong, keg stand, basically any game that comes to mind that you can incorporate drinking into) and the Olympics. Designate a prize for the gold, silver and bronze team, and let the games begin!

8) Fun N’ Games

If you’ve ever tried playing board games with your friends, you’ll know exactly why having a game-themed party is a great idea. You’ll be surprised how much you learn about your friends while playing games like UNO, Sorry, and Trouble. You’ll feel super nostalgic playing the games from your childhood, but this time take it up a notch! Turn it into a drinking game, set up a prize for the winner, and see what happens! There are even games made especially for adults!

9) Toga! Toga! Toga!

Take a page from the Animal House playbook and throw a toga party! Have your friends make their own togas, and hold a contest for whoever makes the best one! Download the Animal House soundtrack, and re-create some of the classic scenes from the movie ( We suggest you check youtube for this one). If you’re daring enough, throw your own food fight! Stick with the theme and serve up some classic Italian food for dinner! Spaghetti makes for an excellent food fight item, just sayin!

10) Mardi Gras

Beads for everyone! This party theme is a great idea for a Halloween party, or any other time during the year that you feel the need to dress up! Have everyone show up in over -the-top costumes, masquerade masks and don’t skimp out on the beads! Make some beignets and hold a costume contest! Make a jazz playlist and turn your house into the French quarter. Throw a Mardi Gras party every year, and take turns hosting!
