The Worst Places To Eat Around Temple University

You wanna know what completely makes my day? Food. I am pretty sure you could tell from my other article (*insert link here*), that I am a HUGE foodie. I am a senior at Temple now so you could imagine the different food trucks and places where I have gotten food from. The hardest part was organizing which food places were the best, but in this case it was quite easy. These are through my opinion so you may come across food and places you adore, I apologize in advance. Keep reading for the worst places to eat around Temple University!

1. Koja Grille

1600 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19121

When I heard about a new Korean restaurant opening, I was nothing but ecstatic about it. I love Korean food knowing that so much love goes into making it. But here, it’s nothing like that. I have ordered different stuff from here and the food were either overcooked or just not good. Even the spicy plates tasted bland to me. There is no love going to the dishes, and you can tell from that. If you are getting take out, they give you a side salad with a weird pink sauce as dressing. I would pass on the salad too if I were you. The food is not that great and the prices are high, why go here?

2. Cha Cha Japanese

1286 W Montgomery Ave Philadelphia, PA 19122

I was a Freshman when I first had a meal from this truck so I was pretty happy trying Korean food for the first time. Honestly the chicken teriyaki meal was alright for $5. The cucumber kimchi was really good. Today the meals are bland and dull. They do not add that much sides to the rice nor are the sides good. The kimchi is horrible as well, like it has been left out of the fridge for days. I do not recommend going here, definitely one of the worst places to eat around Temple University. The little old lady at the truck is very sweet, she is a plus point.

3. Orient Express

1835 N 12th St #7 Philadelphia, PA 19122

You know how people always complain about takeout Chinese? That they are greasy and bad? That is what this place is. The food is greasy, and you can feel unhealthy while eating it. I definitely did not feel happy after eating any meal from here. Also, this place is expensive! For a small lo mein it is $5.75! I wasn’t even full, that makes me sad. The owners here are rude, and that shows in their cooking.

4. All the food courts except Einstein Bro’s Bagels and Auntie Anne’s at the Student Center.

For a Temple University food court, for mainly students with meal plans, this is depressing. The food ranges from dry, too salty, not having enough, or just really greasy food. I am not surprised that most of these students I see leaving the Student Center has either Einstein Bro’s Bagels or Auntie Anne’s in their hands. I also heard that the cereal and other items run out too quickly and some of them have not been restocked yet. That makes this one of the worst places to eat around Temple University. Wanna know another thing? The pizza is dry. WHY?

5. Samosa Deb

12th and Montgomery, Philadelphia, PA 19122

“Hold up, hold up, this place is not even open!” You are right, this place is not even open right now. Why? For reasons I do not know about. The truck is just there in between Top Bap and Cloud. When you look at the menu, you will find many exquisite meals that you may find that are too pricey for their own good. Not once have I seen the owners of this truck either. I recommend going to the city for some great Indian food or going with one of the halal trucks for a quick and fast that you may find are similar to Indian food.

Sofia was born and raised in Philadelphia. She's a rising senior at Temple, majoring in psychology on a pre-PT track. The first love of her life is food as it has never failed to lift her up. The second love(s) of her life are definitely her friends. She's a huge Korean drama fanatic and could sit there and watch it for days...except of course when she's hungry again. She likes to draw, but words are how she likes to express herself the best. Her experience at Temple has been anything but cliché and she's still learning a lot about herself and the world around her, and she wants to use her words to share that experience with others.
