The Ultimate Ranking Of Keene State Freshman Dorms

At Keene State College, there are five freshman dorms. Each one has its own unique benefits to living in it. That being said, each one also has its negative sides. Whether you are currently residing in one of these buildings, already have had your share of them, or are deciding which one for next fall: here are the five Keene State freshman dorms from best to worst.

1. LLC (Living Learning Commons)

This is the newest freshman dorm, it just opened to freshmen this past fall semester. It has the best air conditioning (something many of the dorms on campus lack). Elevators are available, and trust me, when you live anywhere above the third floor, you’ll wish you had them. And the common rooms are open and modern, with large couches, updated kitchen spaces and plenty of room for everyone to hangout. The only negative side to this building is that the rooms themselves are a little smaller than those in other buildings.

2. Holloway

Holloway is the only freshman dorm with suites. The way it’s set up is two people to a room, and four people to a suite, and the suite has its own bathroom. So people in Holloway don’t need to share a bathroom with all the people of the same gender on their floor. Holloway is also the only dorm, in addition to the LLC, with elevators. While it’s a little more expensive than the other dorms, it’s also one of the nicer ones.

3. Huntress

This dorm building is located right on the campus quad, so it’s conveniently located near basically everything. It’s also one of the smaller dorm buildings with the least amount of people, so there’s a real sense of community with the people who you will share a floor with (at the same time however, this could be a negative if you don;t get along with someone). One of the negatives of this buildings is the bright lighting, residents have to put some type of cardboard or cover over the small windows above their doors at night in order to keep the light out of their room. Walking out into the hall hungover the next morning is not fun.

4. Carle

Carle is an older dorm on campus. It has four floors, but no elevator (good exercise, but usually annoying). It’s also one of the larger dorms, with the most people living in it. Carle is known to be one of the more upbeat and party-oriented buildings (aka lots of pre-games). This is one of the upsides to this dorm, while it has a large population, it also has a great social aspect. But don’t expect any air conditioning when it starts heating up. Also, are the ceilings ice cubes or waffles? The world will never know.

5. Monadnock

This is the oldest freshman dorm and was actually almost shut down as a building halfway through this academic year, until its residents voiced their disapproval at that inconvenience. There are still rumors floating around that it will not function as a dorm after this spring semester. If you do get put into this dorm, however, don’t panic. While it’s set up kind of oddly and is older, it has a great way of forming friendships. The halls are small and L-shaped which somehow makes it perfect for running into your neighbors, and soon-to-be friends early on in the year. And if you get sick of saying “Monadnock” all the time (it is a mouthful) the nickname “Mona” is more commonly used on campus.
