The Ultimate Guide to UNCC Financial Aid
Financial aid can save you quite a bit of cash, but only if you’re on top of the process! The UNCC financial aid process isn’t exactly the most fun thing in the world, but it’s important and necessary for most people, so surviving it is key. Follow these ten tips so you can pay for your dream school and have the time of your life at UNCC!
1. Knowing deadlines is a must!
The financial aid process is complicated, so it’s important to stay organized and make sure you’re on top of what’s important. The FAFSA is due on March 1st, which is the priority filing date. If you miss the deadline, pass it in anyways – you might still get some financial aid! Essentially, the sooner you take care of your financial aid, the better.
2. Use the resources available to you.
UNCC knows that it isn’t an easy process, so there’s always some sort of help available if you’re feeling lost. For current students, there are counselors available in the Student Union (hours listed here) to talk about any issues you might be having. If you’re applying as a freshman, there’s plenty of other resources available. Their website is jam-packed with information, and the UNCC financial aid office can be reached by phone at 704-687-5504.
3. Know what documents and forms you’ll need on hand.
The FAFSA requires a ton of information, so it’s going to require that you have it all on hand while filling it out. You’ll need your 2015 tax returns and your parents’ 2015 tax returns. You will also need your income information and your parents’.
Occasionally, the FAFSA may even need further documentation for verification – you will be alerted if that’s the case.
4. Follow UNCC’s online instructions!
Like I said before, UNCC’s site is a great resource, so take advantage! Here’s a simplified 4 step to-do list if you’re stuck at any point.
5. Where will I see my financial aid award?
When you’re admitted to UNCC, you’ll get a log-in code for My UNC Charlotte on your acceptance letter. This is where your financial aid notification will be available!
6. When will I find out my financial aid award?
If you completed your FAFSA by the priority filing date, expect to see a financial aid notification online in mid-April!
7. Let UNCC know you’re attending ASAP!
Use the online portal to confirm your attendance! You can do this beginning in February, but make sure you confirm your attendance by May 1st, 2017 to save your spot in the freshmen class. There’s no enrollment deposit for UNCC, but expect to pay a $200 housing deposit if you plan to live on campus.
8. But… how much will it cost?

If you’re an in-state student living on campus, UNCC will run you about $22,974/year. If you’re an out-of-state student living on campus, expect the cost to be about $36,996/year. This is an in-state and on-campus student’s cost breakdown:

9. How much does an average UNCC student get in financial aid?
In the 2015-2016 school year, about 72% of applying freshmen were found to have financial need. They received an average financial award of $9,777.
10. You can always appeal if you have to.
If something unexpected happens, you have to ability to appeal your financial aid package. To do so, contact the UNCC financial aid office to see if your circumstances allow for a reconsideration!
