The Top Fashion Trends From The Year You Were Born

There is no doubt that fashion trends come and go in a continuous cycle. Chances are that the top trend from the year you were born has come back at some point throughout your life, or it easily could in the near future!

Let’s check out the top fashion trend from the year you were born!

1990: Neon

The major fashion trend in 1990 was the use of neon colors. Specifically, one of the biggest streetwear trends was wearing neon colored jeans! Neon has come and gone since the 90’s, but I’m sure it will be back as a major statement before we know it.

1991: Overalls

Overalls were one of the extremely prominent trends in the early 1990’s, specifically making a statement starting in 1991. Being that denim was certainly paving the way in fashion this year, why not just go all out in a fresh pair of overalls?

1992: Biker Shorts

Biker shorts, specifically neon colored biker shorts, were one of the hottest trends in 1992. Individuals would rock these bad boys anywhere and everywhere. We have seen these make a bit of a comeback in 2019, so luckily you still have the chance to own a pair for yourself and bring back some of your 90’s nostalgia!

1993: Plaid

We often credit the plaid trend to Cher’s classic look in, “Clueless,” but the year that plaid truly gained its popularity was 1993. From flannel shirts to plaid mini skirts, plaid was seen and styled in so many different ways in 1993. This is a fashion trend that has never really gone away, being that there is always a hint of plaid seen in streetwear trends in some way or another!

1994: Doc Martens

Doc Martens were the epitome of the “grunge style” that was seen throughout 1994. These boots are currently one of the hottest trends again in 2019, so it is clear that they were able to make quite an impact. In 1994, these boots were often paired with a babydoll dress or a grungy band tee, but were seen ALL over the map to say the least!

1995: Block Heeled Shoes

Block heeled shoes, or “chunky heels” were the hottest trend of 1995. This is yet another fashion trend that is seen all throughout today’s world of streetwear and runway fashion. While stilettos will always be the perfect choice for certain occasions, we can credit 1995 for introducing block heeled shoes, making the perfect shoe choice for countless different occasions!

1996: Ringer Tees

Ringer tees are one of the overall top trends in the year of 1996. While the classic ringer tee is not much more than a simple tee shirt with a contrasting colored neckline band and sleeve bands, they are a classic 1996 look that made enough of a statement to still exist in present day fashion!

1997: Floral

The floral print trend was ALL OVER 1997 fashion. Simply speaking, floral print was all the rage. Whether it was showcased as a floral print maxi skirt or a flower accessory in your hair, there is no question that 1997 was the ultimate time for floral in all senses to shine amongst other fashion trends of the time.

1998: Small Sunglasses

Small sunglasses were all the rage in 1998. Celebrities and fashion icons in the late 1990’s were never seen without a trendy pair of small, dainty sunglasses. These sunglasses ranged from cat-eye to oval shapes, but the overall trend was just that they were extremely small sized frames. This is something that we are certainly familiar with here in 2019 as the trend has certainly proven its comeback!

1999: Bucket Hats

As the 90’s came to a close, 1999 went out with a bang in terms of fashion trends with the inclusion of bucket hats. This style of hat was the epitome of streetwear, making it one of the absolute coolest and hottest trends of the year! Today, we see countless celebrities and fashion icons wearing bucket hats made by popular streetwear brands, making it no question that the bucket hat trend has certainly resurfaced.

2000: Peasant Blouse

The peasant blouse was one of the most popular trends in 2000. These feminine blouses were worn by nearly every girl this year and never failed to make a fashion statement. With the perfect combination of a puffy sleeve and a keyhole detail, peasant blouses were a great balance between sophisticated and fun! In 2019, peasant blouses have certainly made a comeback, and I am a proud owner of quite a few of these tops!
