The Pros And Cons Of Having Eyelash Extensions

In recent years the application of semi permanent eyelash extensions has become increasingly popular. Instead of applying strip lashes or using mascara, extensions has become a girls new go to beauty accessory. But what is the reality of having eyelash extensions and what does it take to maintain them? Here are the pros and cons of having eyelash extensions:

First the pros!

They save you time

Because eyelash extensions have a semi permanent life meaning once you have them applied or have a refill you don’t need to do much else until 2-4 weeks after when you make another appointment. In the morning this saves you a lot of time as you simply need to cleanse them a few times a week, like you would wash your hair as part of your skin care routine and give them a brush when they get twisted. It’s so simple and requires no time applying on top of your beauty routine. This is a serious pro to having them especially for mothers and working women who find it harder to set time aside to apply makeup but still want the look of being made up.

They have a bold look

Depending on the type and length of extensions you have applied, they can have a bold look. Whether you are wearing makeup or having a natural day, you can rest assured that your eyelashes will always look perfect! If you are after a more dramatic look, volume lashes are a good option. But if you prefer a more natural looking set, classic lashes will suit your needs and will enhance your eyes without drawing too much attention which is a pro for many women.

They can add confidence

Many woman will say that eyelash extensions help them to feel more confident particularly if they are looking to wear less makeup but don’t want to lose the confidence that comes from a full face of product. Because eyelash extensions don’t need to be applied everyday, women are free to go about their lives feeling confident that their eyelash extensions add definition and give them a particular look without piling on layers of mascara or lash glue. This is also a great pro for those wanting to give their skin more room to breathe.

Now for the cons..

They require maintenance

When first getting eyelash extensions many people overlook the maintenance that comes with having them. They require you to cleanse them multiple times a week and you must brush them to keep them in good condition. They also require you to maintain 2-4 weekly appointments to have them filled and this can be time consuming and hard to plan if you don’t know what your schedule will be. Without the correct maintenance you eyelash extensions will not last and can cause damage. Make sure to consider this con before you have a set applied.

They can be expensive

Because you must have them filled every few weeks this can be an expensive habit to incorporate into your budget. Prices for infills will vary depending on the type of extensions you have and the lash artist but you could be spending anywhere from $50 to $100 plus dollars every few weeks to keep your eyelashes looking full and in place. This is a con for many people as not everyone can afford this on top of other expenses.

You can’t touch your eyes!

Until you have eyelash extensions you don’t realise how often you rub or pull on your eyes. This is a con for some people as it requires you to be more mindful and you will never have the opportunity to itch your eye in the same way you could without makeup again. Don’t let this deter you from trying eyelash extensions though, it’s just something to consider. You’ve got to leave those extensions alone when you’re not brushing or cleansing them!
