The Best Skin Care Routine For Your Skin Type

A skin care routine is important to help your skin stay in good, healthy condition. You constantly are shedding skin cells, so it’s good to keep your skin fresh and glowing. A good skin care routine can prevent acne, treat wrinkles, and make your skin look absolutely stunning. Below, I have found great skin care routines for various skin types designed by reliable estheticians.

Balanced Skin

Balanced skin is essentially “normal” skin. There really isn’t such thing as normal but it just means that your skin is not oily or dry. If you aren’t looking to clear up wrinkles or acne and your skin isn’t sensitive, then this is your skin care routine.

Morning

  • Cleanser
    • Use a sulfate-free cleanser that is gentle on your skin, like Renee Rouleau’s Purifying Face Wash ($37). This will ensure to keep you acne free. Use for evening and night.
  • Toner
    • Try the Cremorlab Mineral Treatment Essence ($48) for hydration and brightness. Avoid ethanol and denatured alcohol, which is commonly used ingredients in toners. Use for evening and night.
  • Moisturizer with SPF
    • Generously put it on your face and neck. This is a good way to avoid sun damage and get hydration. Try Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream for $25. For your Antioxidant Serum, go grab the Caudalie Reveratrol Lift Firming Serum ($82). Use for morning.

Evening

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Antioxidant Serum
  • Moisturizer
    • Go for something creamier that will hydrate your skin as you sleep, like Tatcha’s The Water Cream. Use for night.

Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you will have a lot of moisturizing in your skin routine. You should incorporate weekly at-home peels and face oil to your skin routine. If you don’t care for your dry skin, it can lead to atopic dermatitis, or eczema, which is excessive dryness causing a rash and cracking skin. So, take care of your dry skin!

Morning

  • Cleansing Lotion
    • Get the alcohol and paraben-free face wash, Hada Labo Tokyo Gentle Hydrating Cleanser for $13. The hyaluronic acid seals moisture into your skin. Use this both morning and night.
  • Toner
    • To prevent any more change in your pH level and protect against environmental stress, try the the Fresh Rose & Hyaluronic Acid Deep Hydration Toner for $45. Use morning and night.
  • Antioxidant Serum
    • You should use this to stop collagen breakdown. Use We Love Skin Inc Supplement Bar Vitamin A Serum ($35). Use just in the morning.
  • Moisturizer with SPF
    • You must add sunscreen to top off your morning routine. Use the Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer for $34. This will protect your from UVA/UVB rays.

Evening

  • Cleansing Lotion
  • Toner
  • Retinol Serum
    • This should be in your routine 5 nights a week. Use the Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask for $42. Use only at night.
  • Eye Cream
    • Use this $19 Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Gel Cream. It is lightweight enough to absorb quickly. Use only at night.
  • Hydrating Moisturizer
    • Get the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer for $20. This is a gentle and affordable option. The ceramides, niacinamide, and glycerin makes it easy to absorb and retain moisture.

Aging Skin

We all want to put off aging as long as possible. This is a great routine to do just that. Lets plump up those wrinkles and rid of dark spots and saggy skin. As you age, the outer layer, or the epidermis, thins and the melanocytes decreases. Aging skin ends up looking thinner, paler, and clearer. You can prevent early aging by taking care of your body altogether like avoiding alcohol, stop smoking, use less facial expressions, eat a well-balanced diet, etc.

Morning

  • Cleansing Lotion
    • Make sure to lather your neck because that is the first place to show you are aging. Try the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Prep Cleanser for $9. Use this for morning and night.
  • Alcohol-Free Toner
    • The Renee Rouleau Elderberry Soothing Toner ($37) has strong antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties remaining free of parabens and fragrance. Use morning and night.
  • Antioxidant Serum
    • Mary Kay Time Wise Replenishing Serum C+E ($58) is great to firm up your skin and reduce fine lines. Use in the morning.
  • Moisturizer with SPF
    • Try Paula’s Choice Defense Essential Glow Moisturizer SPF 30 for $29. It illuminates your skin with a healthy glow, while giving it protection. Use in the morning only.

Evening

  • Cleansing Lotion
  • Physical Exfoliator
    • Use a physical exfoliator with round beads or try the NeoStrata Foaming  Glycolic Wash. It will unclog your pores and promote cell renewal. Use only at night.
  • Toner
  • Hydrating Moisturizer
    • The Verso Day Cream ($110) will smooth your fine lines and prevent any future ones. Use only at night.
  • Eye Cream
    • The weightless Kate Somerville  + Retinol Firming Eye Cream ($98) will improve the firmness and skin texture on your face and neck.  Use only at night.
  • Retinol Serum
    • The Skin Ceuticals Retinal 0.3 Cream ($67) is noncomedogenic and fragrance free. This is good for people who are prone to acne. Use this only at night.
