The 7 Shows You Should Be Watching On Amazon Prime

Looking for your next show to binge watch? Of course you are, that’s why you clicked on this article. I’m not going to lie, it took me a little while to get into Amazon Prime’s shows because I still associated them with just being the place that delivered me last minute necessities and novelty items, and I wasn’t really sure what to expect from their selection for viewing.

But once you get started, believe me, you’ll get hooked.

1. Good Omens

Now, I’m not going to pretend this is written in order from best to worst or vice versa, especially since everyone has their own original taste and preferences, but Good Omens has to be at the top of the list. Based off of the best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman (who has probably written your other current favorite thing, let’s be real) Good Omens focuses on the devilish demon, Crowley (played by David Tennant) and the sweet (if sometimes selfish) angel Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) as they work together to try to stop the apocalypse from coming. As a six-part miniseries, that’s as witty as is exciting, you’ll be sure to be wanting more (in the best of ways).

2. Fleabag

I can probably guess that you’ve never seen a show like Fleabag because I certainly haven’t. Written by and playing the titular role, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag focuses on a thirty-something British woman whose biting and sardonic humor is focused towards us, the audience, whenever she takes the time to narrate her thoughts to the screen. As a dark comedy, Fleabag works to show how someone can move on from a place of poor decisions and bad coping mechanisms to a discovering what matters most, and how one can work on themselves and their connections to begin to heal.

3. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

If you haven’t heard of the award-winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel by now, well, okay fair enough, but get on it just the same. A witty period drama that focuses on the duality of a housewife-turned-stand-up-comic, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel gives a feminist spin to the beloved romance of the 1950s and makes for damn good television, too.

4. Forever

Forever is that comfortably uncomfortable show you’ve been wanting since Portlandia, though in a different way-focusing on the same couple starting from the beginning of their relationship to where they begin to feel stuck in a loop. Forever can seem a long way away from those of us in college, but this Amazon Prime original can show us the ways in which people work together in order to make things work.

5. Lore

If you’re into True Crime genre, this really is the show for you. Lore, based on the podcast, goes into the background and history of real crimes, mixing it with tales of folklore and the supernatural. With some seriously spooky animations and reenactments, Lore might just be the creepy binge you’ve been looking for.

6. Mozart in the Jungle

If shows about music are more your thing, Amazon Prime’s Mozart in the Jungle is a clever show that focuses on the eccentric and ridiculous composers and their music. Funny and charming, Mozart in the Jungle will bring you from New York to central and Latin America, and even Japan, showing you the music scene, and just why you should appreciate classical music in 2019.

7. Transparent

The queer dramedy we’ve been waiting for, Transparent starts at the end of what-used-to-be-Mort’s life, as she confesses to her family that she would like to be called Maura. Showing that queerness doesn’t only come early in life, Transparent is able to show the difficulties and revelations of transitioning later in life and how it affects Maura’s family and friends along the way.
