5 Reasons Why I Chose To Go To Virginia Tech

Coming to Virginia Tech was the best decision that I ever made for myself. While there are thousands of reasons why my school is the most amazing place on Earth; here are the top 5 reasons I chose to go to Virginia Tech, and what makes me so excited to come back year after year!

1. Football

Every big state school has a decent football program, but not every school has something as special as the Hokies. Tailgating on game day is the highlight of the week, rain or shine, everyone is on Center Street getting ready for the game. Don’t forget about “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. Virginia Tech is ranked second for the best collegiate football entrance in the country, not to mention we went to Battle of Bristol at the beginning of the year. With a record breaking crowd at the Bristol Motor Speedway, the Hokies took on University of Tennessee, and of course there was tailgating.

2. Greek Life

Tons of schools have a Greek community, but few are as good as that of Virginia Tech. There are a total of 55 sororities and fraternities recognized by Virginia Tech, so there is a house for everyone. The houses are all in a community together right off campus, and everyone is friends with everyone. There is no exclusivity between houses and everyone gets along. During philanthropy week, the competition is tough and huge amounts of money are raised for great causes at each house.

3. School Spirit

Every school has some degree of school spirit, but not many compare to ours at Virginia Tech. Especially as a transfer student, I can honestly tell you that Virginia Tech trumps every other school out there. We have the second best college football entrance, and the happiest students. We also won the Victoria’s Secret PINK Campus Showdown, we all still show up and tailgate in the pouring rain, and orange and maroon have become life-long staple colors in our wardrobe.

4. Food

Number one in the damn country. Crab cakes, lobster, quesadillas, sushi, chicken parmesan, Qdoba, steak made-to-order, chicken ‘n’ waffles, you name it, we have it. Jamba Juice, Hibachi Grille, Chick Fil A, and Dunkin Donuts are all other food options that you will find here. You will never go hungry at Virginia Tech, and more often than not you’ll opt to eat on campus because it’s just so damn good.

5. Downtown

There are so many bars and restaurants downtown. Blacksburg has a better downtown than one may think. There are tons of restaurants, bars, and shops to go to. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays downtown is always crowded. Blacksburg is also home to TOTS, the best collegiate bar in the country, so that is something to look forward to.

These are the top 5 reasons I decided to go to Virginia Tech . What are your reasons? Let me know in the comments!
