5 Reasons Why I Chose To Go To Loyola University Chicago

Hello! I’m Hillary and I’m a first year film student at Loyola. In my college search, I was looking for city schools. I heard about Loyola from my aunt and I chose to tour it and fell in love with every aspect of it. I applied, got in, and have never been happier with any choice I’ve ever made. Here are 5 reasons why I chose to go to Loyola University Chicago!

1. The Campuses

Loyola has two campuses: Lakeshore and Water Tower. I wanted a city college experience, but didn’t want to live in the middle of a city, commuting to every class. I still wanted to have a campus experience, with quads and everything. Loyola has the best of both, which I love. Lakeshore is a few miles outside of the city, and Water Tower is right in the middle of downtown.

2. The Size

Loyola is not a small school, but it’s not huge. It has about 15,000 students. This means you probably aren’t in a lecture hall with hundreds of students. There’s a personal feel, where you know your professors. Plus, the campus isn’t huge so you don’t have to worry about getting lost after your first month.

3. Mostly Female

Loyola is mostly female. I personally really like this. Classes are mostly female, and I just felt more comfortable. Most of my professors were female. I feel more community in living and learning in a highly female population.

4. Internship opportunities

Being right in the city, there’s a lot of internship opportunities. Being in the film program, there’s opportunities at different television stations. But students in other schools have access to lots of businesses and other places to get internships that could potentially lead to a job right after graduation.

5. The Feeling

It’s hard to explain, but there’s just a feeling I got when I first stepped onto the campus. This feeling is the most influential of the reasons why I chose to go to Loyola University Chicago. I could see myself going to school here, studying for finals in the IC, meeting with friends at the dining halls, catching the train. I had a feeling that I didn’t get on any other campus I toured. I knew then that this was the school I was going to go to. That feeling is one of the most important things to feel when you pick a school.
