5 Reasons I’m Excited To Start At University Of Utah

If you are an incoming freshman, or a transfer student like I am, going to a new school is always exciting, and a little nerve wracking. In attempts to try and calm my nerves about going to a new university, especially one as big as the U, here are the top five reasons I’m excited to attend The University of Utah in the fall!

1. There is a Panda Express on campus.

This might not seem too exciting, but here’s why it is: at the university I currently go to, the closest Panda Express is over four hours away! That’s a long way to drive for food, especially in college. If anyone needs me during the semester, you know where to find me!

2. The MUSS.

If you know one thing about me, it should be that I LOVE sports, especially football. I grew up watching Utah football and I couldn’t be happier to finally be a part of it. Being a student at the University of Utah means you can be a part of one of the greatest fan sections in college football: The MUSS. Fun Fact: Muss means “state of confusion or chaos”.

3. The Marriott Library is bigger than my current college campus.

I live to read. I also prefer to study in the library, as opposed to in my dorm. Stepping into the Marriott Library for the first time, I was in awe. THEN they mentioned that they have a rare collection of books, including a first edition of Alice In Wonderland, which happens to be one of my favorite books. EVER. If I’m not at Panda Express, check the library.

4. There are so many students enrolled, I may never see the same person twice.

At my current university, the total number of students is around 14,000. At the U? Almost 50,000. That’s a huge leap. I’m a very social person, and I love getting to know new people. I love the small school feel, but I’m ready to explore and meet new people, like the friends I made over the summer, who almost all attend the U.

5. I’m closer to the things I value the most: family and rodeo.

Yes, those are two very different things, and yes, I mean both wholeheartedly. I love my family more than anything, and being over 6 hours away from most of them has been straining. As for rodeo, I’ve loved it since I was 6 (I was Little Miss Norwood Rodeo 2005). At the University of Utah, I can see my family and go to rodeos, (hopefully work for them one day) all while going to school.

There are so many reasons I can’t wait to start at The University of Utah, but these are definitely my top five. If anyone is nervous about starting school at the U, just remember, there are so many things to be excited about, you’ll forget to be nervous. I’ll see you in the fall. Go Utes!
