14 Outfits That Scream “English Major”

Being an English major is all 20 page papers, poetry classes, and drinking tea and coffee until 3am doing book reports. What helps tie it all in is the fashion associated with the major. There’s just something about baggy clothes, cardigans, and mom jeans that scream “I’m an English Major”, and I’m here to help you find the right clothes for the job. (Keep in mind, you can dress how you want regardless of major!) Here are 14 outfits to make it easy to tell others what you major in.

1. Bright Sweater and Black Jeans

In the fall weather, the easiest comfort-yet-business outfit for studying in the library or chilling in the English Office is a sweater and jeans combo, like this one. Bright colors are everything nowadays, and the English major vibe isn’t complete without a color statement.

2. Crop Top with Cardigan

This is an iconic look, especially during the fall and spring times. Perfect for when the weather is chilly outside but the classrooms are hot as hell. Plus this is the ideal outfit for getting work done in Starbucks, allowing you to feel aesthetic and accomplished at the same time.

3. Comfy Sweater and High-Rise Jeans

The epitome of English Major outfits is anything with high-rise mom jeans. We all live for the 90’s and the easiest way to accomplish this is by pairing anything with some mom jeans. You’ll be an unstoppable writing machine in a fit like this.

4. Matching Shirt and Shoes

As I said earlier, something important to the English major aesthetic is the eccentric colors, and wearing shoes that match your shirt is always really fun! Plus it makes for great Instagram pics!

5. Black Sweater with Light Blue Jeans

This one is quite the opposite from the first outfit, but it’s fun to mix it up a little. Pulling off this look with a messy bun is the way to go, and it’s a good way to give off the “I could care less” vibe along with the english major vibe. Definitely one of my go to choices.

Ankle boots are the easiest way to be comfortable with style. Not everyday is a socks with sandals day, and when you want to look cute without getting blisters, these boots will easily be your go-to item. If you sole supports inside them, it’ll be hard to want to wear anything else!

7. Graphic Tee’s and Statement Pants

Pairing a graphic tee with statement pants is the most iconic English major look. It’s a fun way to look fashionable and approachable at the same time, and who knows? Maybe you’ll find some fresh new material by writing about this ‘fit.

Converse are the key to an English major’s heart, and bright colors are always fun to pair together! 9. Sweater and Statement Pants

Again, you can not go wrong with statement pants, they are the cutest thing ever and they always look good, no matter what is in style at the moment. If it is too cold for a graphic tee, they work well with a solid color sweater! Pair black and white pants with a fall color like yellow, or a spring color like pink. (Or, don’t give a f*ck and wear whatever color you want!)

10. A White Shirt with a Cute Belt

Tucking in shirts is making a comeback for women and I’ve never been happier. It’s so freeing to show off your curves and make a statement doing so. Pairing some mom jeans with a white shirt and a black belt is the ultimate outfit for any college girl, and if you add a cardigan you’re officially the english-est english major.

11. A Big Oversized Shirt and A Scrunchie

Something I’ve come to realize after two years of being an English major is that fashion is just part of the aesthetic. And after scrolling through this article, I’m sure you’ve realized that too. Another huge part of the fashion scene within the English clique is anything from the 90’s. There’s just something about that vibe that says I like to write in my spare time. Plus it’s incredibly cute, I can’t believe we let that get “outdated”.

12. A Cute Denim Jacket

A denim jacket is a great way to tie any outfit together, especially if it’s a little oversized. Being comfortable is a huge aspect when being fashionable, and it’s always fun to have a warm jacket just in case. Plus if it gets too hot you can tie it around your waist for an even cuter look to your ensemble.

13. A Long Sleeve Shirt and a Tank Top

This sounds like a super weird combo in theory, but it is the cutest shit when pulled off the right way. It’s a great way to feel like an adult in college, especially when we all came from a time it was cool to wear leggings under jean shorts. In college, we layer better than that, and it’s a staple icon of every English major ever.

14. A Cute Corduroy Dress

Every outfit can’t always be jeans or leggings! As a way to mix it up and keep it cute, a dress is for sure the way to go. The best thing about these types of dresses is that they are perfect for people who don’t normally like to wear a dress! They aren’t flowy, they’re form fitting from the waist up, and they are least likely to hitch up and expose your shorts underneath! Plus some styles like this have pockets!!!!
