10 Music Festivals In Philly You Won’t Want To Miss This Summer

Music festivals are a popular thing to participate in throughout the warm summer months. Philadelphia has a wide variety of outdoor music events from DIY festivals to a couple of the largest festivals in the region. There are a wide variety of events taking place, so make the most of your summer! Here are 10 music festivals in Philly you won’t want to miss.

1. HoagieNation

HoagieNation is a music festival started by Daryl Hall and John Oates in 2017. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 26 at the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. There will be performances by Daryl Hall and John Oates, Train, Fitz and the Tantrums, Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers, and more.

2. Roots Picnic

This year’s Roots Picnic will be held at the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing on Saturday, June 2. This year’s music lineup includes Lil Uzi Vert, Gangsta Grillz, The Diplomats, Brandy, Jojo Abot, and more. The Podcast Stage will feature Drink Champs, On One with Angela Rye, Questlove Supreme, and others. There will also be a Madden and NBA 2k Tournament and a variety of panels.

3. Wawa Welcome America

Wawa Welcome America 2018 will take place from June 28 to July 4, 2018. This festival is one of the country’s biggest Independence Day celebrations. As of now, the only performance announced is the 4th of July concert. This performance consists of Pitbull, Heather Headley, and the Philly Pops Big Band. More events for the festival will be announced on their website.

4. XPoNential Music Festival

The XPoNential Festival will take place on the Camden Waterfront from July 27 to July 29, 2018, and will feature established artists as well as up-and-coming musicians. Performances include David Byrne, Sylvan Esso, Sturgill Simpson,  Bermuda Triangle, and many more.

5. Made in America Festival

This year’s Made in America festival will take place on September 1 and 2, 2018. Started back in 2012, the festival takes place on Labor Day weekend each year. While this year’s lineup has not been officially announced yet, Jay Z. J. Cole, and the Chainsmokers headlined last year’s performance.

6. Make Music Philly

Make Music Philly is described as a “do it yourself” music festival. Performances can be held at any location across the city at makeshift music venues. All performances are free. This year’s event will be on June 21 and an official list of locations will be announced closer to the date.

7. West Philly Porchfest

Porchfest is another “do it yourself” music festival. This year’s event will take place on June 2 from 12-6 p.m. Anyone in West Philly can host or perform on porches across the neighborhood and a listing of events will be posted on their website.

8. Philadelphia Folk Festival

This year’s folk festival will take place from August 16 to the 19th at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township. The festival has a variety of craft and food vendors. Musical acts include Riders in the Sky, world-renowned fiddler Eileen Ivers, Trout Fishing in America, and Wynonna and the Big Noise.

9. This Is Hardcore Fest

This Is Hardcore Fest is a festival of hardcore punk musicians. This year’s festival will be held from July 27 to July 29 at the Electric Factory. Performances will include One King Down, Ten Yard Fight, World Demise, Raw Brigade, and more.

10. Molestice

Molestice is a block party and music festival that is held on the 100 block of Mole Street in Philadelphia to celebrate the summer solstice. The event is free and all ages are welcome to attend. The music lineup will be announced on their website soon. There are some great music festivals in Philly this summer!
