15 Joyful Ways To Embrace the Hygge Lifestyle

Hygge lifestyle can be achieved not by buying, ordering, or acquiring anything other than your closest friends and loved ones. The term ‘hygge’ is danish, typically defined by a feeling or moment when you are surrounded by blissful and calming people in an atmosphere that is comforting.

1. Sit By The Fire

Nothing says relaxation and comfort like sitting by a warm fire. In the wintertime or holiday season, this is a given. Light some firewood and get a few of your closest loved ones together, and enjoy the natural light and warmth provided by the fire. Yes, this may be the most common during the winter months, but you can enjoy this at any time! Soothing, warm, and peaceful, you’ll never want to leave the spot.

2. Bake: Comfort Food Edition

While you are right, no specific feeling can be attached to the idea of ‘hygge lifestyle’, there are certain things you can do to enhance the feeling. Baking and eating comfort food is a great way to bond with those around you, and with everyone’s busy schedules, it can be difficult to make time. Baking banana bread, monkey bread, homemade soup, and other mouth-watering foods can be the best thing for you!

3. Get Comfortable

Dressing in sweatpants and a sweatshirt is not done daily, (or maybe it is), but it definetly is relaxing. They are called lounge pants for a reason, they promote lounging around. Nothing feels better than slipping on warm slippers and some baggy pants. Melt away the day’s stress by throwing on your favorite Pajama set!

4. Make Your Favorite Drink

Pour a pot of coffee, some tea, or even some juice. If you are anything like me, you are fascinated by the idea of coffee creations and other caffeinated beverages. I LOVE drinking coffee – hot, cold, sweet, black, I drink it all! After all, caffeine can really improve your mood, giving you a fully relaxed environment. Just don’t drink too much, of course.

5. Candles

Candles are super relaxing, and lighting a candle can easily provide a sweet smell to any room. Not only are they delightful, but candles are also pretty to look at. Light a candle or two in your bedroom, office, or living room area! Pick out some cucumber, lilac, vanilla, or chamomile scent candle for the best and most relaxing scent.

6. Take A Bubble Bath

Taking a warm bath with a lot of bubbles is one sure way to de-stress. Fill your tub with warm water, and throw a bath bomb in for a pop of colors. Take your stress away minute by minute. I absolutely love taking baths! The soothing vibe that it gives cannot be expressed! If you get bored, try bringing some creams, exfoliators, and other beauty tools to occupy yourself while in the bath. Bring some magazines, too!

7. SPA TIME

Maybe a bath was enough spa time for you, but a hygge lifestyle is much more. If you are anything like me, a spa treatment will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated for hours to come. You don’t need to spend $200 on a spa, you can have one at home! Exfoliate your legs and feet with a brush, put on a face mask, and pamper yourself in the comfort of your home! Get a bunch of your favorite lotions, creams, and nail polishes, and set aside some time that is just for you. This can have a tremendous impact on your mood!

8. Music

Music can be as addicting as a drug. Seriously. Listen to music as you tidy up your room, or vedge out on the couch. This can have a totally blissful impact!

9. Enhance Your Experience With Nature

One of the most peaceful remedies is to appreciate your exposure to nature. This could mean go outside on a nature walk (if weather permits), or find some flowers and bring them to your home. Nature and plants are a naturally beautiful way to appreciate the world around us.

10. Gratitude

Acknowledging your appreciation for those around you is one big piece to the hygge puzzle. Many of us are so busy with our daily routines that a sense of gratitude is not necessarily forgotten, but we don’t practice gratitude enough. Some studies indicate that showing and expressing gratitude can increase happiness levels. This is one sure way to open up your awareness to those around you and appreciate them with open arms.

11. Self Care – To The Next Level

A hygge lifestyle can be practiced by doing things that you enjoy. Maybe it is reading your favorite book, maybe it is binge-watching your favorite Netflix series. Whatever it may be, pause from the fast world around you and enjoy your favorite past times.

12. Enjoy Your Surroundings

Having a clean room or an organized area that you use frequently will reduce your likelihood to feel stressed or overwhelmed. For me, my room and dresser/ desk area are the first places to get cluttered. After a long day, the last thing I want to do is to decide what goes where. Keeping your space neat will help enhance and achieve a hygge lifestyle.

13. Allow Yourself To Slow Down

One of the best ways to relax and take a step back is to slow down. Everything you are doing, do it slower. Slow your breathing, to a meditating speed. All your thoughts to slow down. Move slower around the house. This will help soothe your mind and declutter your stress!

14. Comfort & Normalcy

Comfort and soothing vibes holds the key to a hygge lifestyle. Anything that gives you comfort, whether it is a drive by the beach, wearing an old pair of socks, or simply lying down, those are the things that should be kept close to you.

The concept of a hygge lifestyle is not recent, but rather desirable. Not everyone is familiar with it, but with a few of these simple steps, it can be achieved. I hope everyone enjoyed this article! Comment below which tips and hacks you liked the most!
