How To Deal When All Your Friends Are Dating And You’re Single

No one likes to be the third wheel. What can you do when all you’re friends are dating and you haven’t been so lucky in the dating pool? Read below for some great ideas on how to make the most of your time while single. This current stage in life you are at doesn’t have to be a drag. Choose to take this time to reflect and challenge yourself in ways you might not have been able to do otherwise.

Learn a new sport

Go down to the YMCA in your town and sign up to try a new sport. Have you always wanted to learn how to swim or join a town league basketball team? Be like Nike and Just Do it! Learning a new sport is a great way to get out into the community and meet new people while doing something fun and active. Being single means you can devote more time to your schedule for trying out new things.

Start a blog

Do you love to write? Are you passionate about things like travel or cooking? Creating a blog is not only therapeutic but can be a great way to fill your time and also connect you with people. You would be surprised how many people are eager to learn from another person’s experience and to gain insight on unfamiliar topics. Blogging is a great way to share your knowledge with others especially if you are active on social media. Web sights like WordPress and Blogger offer free writing platforms for beginner writers.

Volunteer at a local charity

Volunteering is a great way to give back, especially around the holiday. There are many marginalized groups in our communities that can use all the love and support of those willing to step in and meet a need. Volunteering can help you meet new people, learn a skill, and stay healthy. Volunteering can help even provide a sense of purpose especially in a draught of singleness.

Bring another friend to hang out

Sometimes you can’t escape from being the third wheel in your coupled-up friends’ group. You love your friends but also know your limits of what you can and can’t take. Why not invite another single friend with you when you are all hanging out together. It will be less awkward for you are more enjoyable if you had a buddy to hang out with too who understand the struggle.

Travel

Traveling while single is another great way to make the most of your time since everything will depend on your timetable. You don’t have to worry about schedule conflicts or arguing over what destination to visit. The choices are limitless because you are free to do what you like and when you want to do it. No negotiations or compromising is necessary. So book that trip you been holding off on, you can have a great time on your own. Plus a great benefit to traveling solo is that you are more likely to stick to a budget and find cheaper deals for just one traveler.

Start a business

If you have a great talent or knack for something why not try to create your own small business? You can be making money doing something that you love. There are plenty of mobile applications and websites available for people to sell home-made items or offer services. If you are a writer, Fiverr is a great site that connects businesses with freelancers offering digital services. If you are a great thrift shopper you can make a profit on Poshmark reselling clothing items. Being single can provide you with a chance to dedicate consecrated time that you may not have had while in a relationship. Make the most of the opportunities available to you don’t squander it.

Take a class

Have you always enjoyed taking pictures but not so great with finding the perfect angels or capturing the light just right? Take a photography class and gain the skills you always wanted. If cooking is not your strong suit sign up for a local cooking class. You can find inexpensive classes for fun online or at your local town hall. Your college might even have courses available to take at night for a discounted rate.

Read

Hear me out on this one! I’m sure you might be bored to death with all the course reading you may have to do for your classes but I’m suggesting reading for pleasure. When is the last time you got so caught up into a page-turner that you couldn’t put the book down? Or you may be like me and have a bunch of books lying in a corning somewhere that has yet to be open. While being single you can use your free time to read and to gain knowledge on topics you are curious about.

Pamper yourself

Being single doesn’t mean you stop caring about yourself, it’s the opposite. You should be taking the time to enjoy just being with just you. Take yourself on a date to the movies or treat yourself to a facial. In a relationship, we often seek security in the other person. Work on making yourself feel complete and alone while being single is the most important thing you can do for yourself.

Spend time with those who matter

Being single does get lonely at times so invest in other relationships. I am sure you have people in your life who support you and love you. Spending time with those who care about us and support is the best sort of self-care we all need. That support system will help you to take your mind off of all the things you lack and focus instead on being grateful for all that you do possess.

Whether newly single or just recently, being single is not the end of the world. It is the perfect time to focus your mind on becoming the best version of yourself. How have you been able to grow during the season of being single? Please share your thoughts below in the comment section.
