How Harry Styles Single Handily Changed The Fashion Industry

Some of us listen to music to express ourselves throughout our many moods, and we are sure Mr. Styles does the same. Since he is a musician, after all, creating music is not the only way he explores himself. Throughout his interpersonal journey, he embraces fashion in a new way like never before. Making history, Harry Styles is the first male to cover American Vogue, and he did it in style, shocking the world with an unexpected look that everyone was talking about. Here are a few ways Harry Styles has changed the fashion industry for the good.

1. More Than Just A White Suit

For his performance at the Gucci Cruise show in Rome in 2019, where he sang beside Stevie Nicks, he was covered in Gucci. His main inspiration comes from Gucci, and he has been in over four campaigns for the Italian luxury brand. At the show, he wore a double-breasted cream-colored suit that was accessorized with some of the best combinations anyone could wear. The suit was not the only thing people were screaming about, though. The manicure he was showcasing is just as important as the clothing he was wearing. Having fun with some pastel colors made the suit stand out. Not to mention some of the jewelry he wore was also from Gucci, as well as the bag he was holding in his right hand. The suit, on average, could run you a little more over $3,000.00, as nearly all Gucci suits do. Each ring is over $250.00 and they are all available on the Gucci website for you to order. Even the Aviator sunglasses are Gucci and can run you at a little over $300.00, equaling the entire outfit (without the handbag) over $3,500.00.

2. Lights Up

As the first music video Harry Styles released from his Fine Line album, the Lights Up music video did it once again… Harry severed what the people were asking for and did so in custom Gucci. Making Lights Up the lead single of his album was a very smart move since it was a major hit to give a chance to prepare for Fine Line, since his prior album was released back in 2017 and fans were starting to lose patience. In the Lights Up music video that was reportedly shot in Cancun, Mexico, Harry wore a custom mesh-like glittery button-up with baby blue trousers accompanied by white heeled boots. The entire look was all custom designed by Gucci as a present. The price tag on this look is unknown since the creative director of the luxury Italian brand created the look specifically for Mr. Styles, but since it is custom couture, it is safe to say that is most likely out of the average person’s budget!

3. The Vest With A Twist

In over 125 years, American Vogue has not had a male on the cover, so what better man to put on the cover than Harry Styles himself? When it was announced that he was going to be on the cover, fans, as well as the world, went insane. Harry is not only the first male to be on the cover of American Vogue, but he also opted to wear a dress and a skirt. For years, toxic masculinity has existed, and still to this day, it still does. That did not stop Mr. Styles from exploring his feminine side on a platform that millions of people all over the world are familiar with. The price alone on the Wales Bonner Knitted sweater pictured below is over $500.00, and that is if you can get a hold of one since they seem to be all sold out. That comes as no surprise, though, since millions of people saw an A-List celebrity putting it on display.

4. “Bring Back Manly Men”

We are unsure if Harry Styles was aware that his clothing preference for Vogue was going to cause a huge ruckus, even with political activists, but it certainly got them talking. Candance Owens, specifically, had a lot to say about Mr. Styles and said some insensitive things that offended the entire LBGTQ+ community. When everyone, including Harry Styles, heard what she had to say about him covering American Vogue in a dress, he decided to clap back like the king he is. In a custom Palomo Spain suit and shirt, he took to Instagram, where he has over 35 million followers, and posted a photo of himself enjoying a banana. For the caption of the photo, he decided to throw some shade by putting “bring back manly men” as a direct reference to what Candace Owens had said. Quickly, millions knew exactly what he was getting at, and he got support from all his fans. Even Karamo Brown and Tan France from Queer Eye made a comment! Thankfully, all this fuss did not stop Harry from expressing himself, and hopefully, it never will.

5. The American Vogue Cover Look

And finally, the look that Harry Styles is best known for, designed by Alessandro Michelle himself, the creative director of Gucci. This outfit consisted of a double-breasted tuxedo jacket over a Gucci dress that had everyone shaking in their boots. Alessandro Michelle made sure to add some unique features to the gown, such as making sure it involved baby blue lace, making it feel light and flowy, perfect for a spring day. This was the look that Candace Owens commented negatively about, claiming that Harry Styles is not a “strong man” because he is wearing a dress. There is so much wrong with this statement, because what a person wears has nothing to do with how feminine or masculine they are. As a huge Harry Styles fan and a proud member of the LBGTQ+ community, I do not see anything wrong with the concept of a man in his late twenties wearing a custom gown, but it seems like those who disliked the look should find something productive to do.

Stunting on everyone, whether it was in custom couture designed especially for him or something you can purchase at the retail value, Harry Styles has singlehandedly changed the fashion industry in more ways than one. Which Harry Styles look is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!
