Summer is here and it’s time to frolic in it, but don’t forget about sun exposure because it is no joke. Here are 8 ways to style your hair under hats this summer so you can be both stylish and protected from the sun.

1. Braids.

One of our favorite hairstyles is the braid! due to its versatility, it can be adapted into any season and hair type. Try a fishtail braid under a baseball cap for that sporty, low maintenance look. The fishtail braid is complicated if you don’t have the experience for it we have attached a video tutorial that will teach you how.

2. Bubble Braid.

Yes, Still in the braid family. But this style has a whole different vibe to it. This is hairstyle is best enjoyed under a wide-brimmed hat for that perfect summer, boho chic look. In the chosen photo the bubble braid is displayed in two separate pigtails making it appear more cute and playful. If you don’t know how to do this type of intricate braid or need a refresher, check out this video tutorial on how to achieve it.

3. Messy Bun.

Want another laid back look you can rock at an amusement park or an ice cream run. The coveted messy bun has adapted to the summer sun and now hangs outside of your baseball cap. This hairstyle is perfect for jean shorts and crop top style outfit.

4. Side Pony.

Tie your hair in a low ponytail and braid it to the side under a Panama hat to achieve the pictured look.  Make sure to style your hair in loose beachy curls and pull them out of the braid to best frame your face.

5. Old Hollywood.

These hairstyles require a beret to complete the look. Go for old Hollywood curls to frame the face and create an elevated, polished, and elegant look. Pair with a floral printed fit and flare dress, and accessorize with pearls and a bold lip. And you would have mastered this look. As you can see from our image below you can team up slightly wavy hair with a braid for a hybrid look. This style can be pulled through a baseball cap, or even a sun hat. We have found a way to achieve this look by braiding your hair before going to sleep and taking the braid out in the morning, therefore you do not need to use heat on your curls! Here is a video tutorial to show you just how to do that.

7. The flower child.

For this hairstyle you need to start with a low pony and turn it into a bun, to take it to the next level add flowers or to achieve the pictured look get yourself some “gypsophila overtime” to add that earthy vibe. Pair your hairstyle with a fedora or whicker hat to really drive it home.

8. Blunt.

This is for the edgy gal, you got to style your hair in a blunt bob or blunt front bangs. The hat of choice for this would be a beret or a newsboy hat, they are very popular right now and elevate any simple look into one that is polished and put together.
